Right, I'm using MX so my screen may look a bit different from yours.
If I remember they changed the method of FTP from verion 4 --> MX.

Karina, if you leave the Host Directory Blank it will connect you to the root folder of the remote server.
You only need to enter something here, if you automatically want dreamweaver to connect to a specific folder on your remote server.
If you specify "members/" in the host directory field, then when you connect to via ftp it would put you in:
"karinacurrie.com/members/"
leave it blank it will put you in:
"karinacurrie.com/"

ok cool i think that just about does it for the help needed, but one last pick of the brain before i go and carry on building. i am assuming that when i want to upload my members content to the site i have to go and adjust the host directory from blank to "members/" is this so or will it do it automatically for me taking into account the members folder is password protected by Ibill.
but thats it my last question
all the help is really appreciated (you'll never know how much that was doing me bleedin head in)

You don't need to do that Karina. When you upload via FTP you should be looking at a window that looks like this:
http://www.melbpc.org.au/pcupdate/2112/ ... le13-5.gif except ofcourse with your files listed in it.
The remote site is on the right, if the members folder is already there you just clcik into it(double click) and then drag all the files over that you want in from the left.
You could browse through all the folder on your remote and local site just like you can in windows explorer. Just drag across files where you want them.

Karina, you know you dont need to use Dreamweaver's built in FTP if you are not comfortable with it. You could upload the files using the same process you used when uploading your original site, it will all end up doing the same thing.

I agree Steve, it can be complicated enough configuring DW, without using it to upload, it,s probably easier to design your site using DW, then upload using Ace ftp or something similar, then all you have to worry about is designing the site.
Use a external ftp client, just enter your host name, username, password, and bingo, well In theory.
Good luck karina.
