If the site is already for sale they should give you an idea of what price they're looking for.
Before you throw ?1000's at it I'd suggest you find out more about the site. How much traffic it gets, how many Members it has etc...
What you want to be careful of is that you're not just buying something that someone else has already failed to cover their costs on as you'll just be taking over their debt.

Why spend any money? Make money and be an affiliate to the websites then think about getting into it

Or maybe you are one of those ex affiliates on the next level

I cant stress right now is the hardest time ever to be launching a new solo girl website when so many quality ones with lots of content have been around a long time already.

It'll be like the baby elephant in a herd of adult elephants. Im not even commenting on the quality of a site but even at its best might give it a slight chance but then you will have to weather the costs of updates for a long time if you want to see profit.

If you actually ever see any that is

Are there any success stories about people buying a site and then actually making money from it?
There is another thread right now about a site that someone bought, and well, it's not a very positive thread. (That site, and the site this is thread is about (if my guess is correct), both hasn't had an update since January, the difference being that the latter site doesn't allow people to join.)

One problem, to me, with someone taking over a site, is that a lot of sites have a distinctive look when it comes to the content, and that may be a problem when the new owner creates new material.

If you need any help or advice mate then email me and I'll help you all I can.

What people think a site is worth in relation to its actual monetary value can be massively different and you could be paying way over the odds.

The site hasn't failed, it makes a little money even without there being updates to it for a few months which is why the seller wouldn't entertain my offer saying he won't let it go cheap as he'd rather leave it as is and earning the small amount it does than sell. I understand about the other factors such as traffic and members but I was trying to find out the content value as my starting point as that's going to be my get-out if it doesn't all go to plan, I'd have the content to sell on to recoup some of my investment so I think if I can get an idea of what that's worth then I'll be better placed to make an offer.

Traffic and members aren't as important when coming to a figure to offer as there is good potential and if it's turning over a little money now without updates then I'm confident I can make my investment pay off (not giving too much away, but my brother has a little knowledge).

I appreciate your words of warning.

I am not as clueless as I probably seem though. I do feel confident I can see a return on my investment but if not then so long as my losses are minimal then it wouldn't be the end of the world to me, which is why I wanted to ascertain content value as my starting point as if the content with the site becomes mine then my worst case ending is I have that to sell on to recoup something.

Not expecting it to be easy, but it's something that appeals to me, I have the funds and via my brother I have someone with a knowledge of getting the right sort of traffic. I'm confident I'll see a return but if I don't it won't beat me up.

The one I'm looking at is live and taking sign-ups, is making a small profit without there being updates for a few months. I am aware that the cost of future content has to be taken into account though, if it were currently having updates it'd probably be turning a loss but I am confident of making a return.

I had thought about the distinctive feel but it shouldn't be a problem as long as the theme remains the same.
