This auto blocking of porn sites is rubbish if it still allows file sharing
All one has to do is type in what they like and hit search and bang! You got it right there without going to a porn site...For free
In fact, it will be getting content from those porn sites for free which is effectively worse. Not because its for free but the children can in theory get access to it for free anyway
Im sure all the bittorents and rapidshare sites wont be blocked

I very much doubt it.
Filters already exist and make not one jot of difference.
The proper way to do it is block sites that dont need a credit card to access the material i.e. free sites.
But then that would be far too difficult a way to win votes, sorry I mean tackle the problem efficiantly.
I presume UKAP and AITA are already in contact with the mp given the task of coming up with the proposals?
If not, why not?

AITA have had meetings with MP's and other Government Departments in the past regarding filters and are in the process of contacting them, however the lack of support for AITA from the UK Adult industry is amazing. If the UK adult Industry wants AITA to continue these discussions and for the UK Adult Industry to have a voice at the table they need to step up and support AITA. The best way to do this is to join and become a member.

"People will be exchanging hard drives full of the stuff if the internet was shut down tomorrow

We sell our films in MKV/AVI format already on 4,8,16 & 32gb, a 32gb card can be bought for ?15 & hold 25-30 films in DVD & HD quality.
Most new TV's have a USB socket so again USB sticks can be used like SD cards to ferry media, a MKV player goes for as cheap as ?25...cheaper to post & not as easy to detect as DVD disc's so DVD as long gone.
If the internet did somehow block everyone life would go on for us porn producers & we would most probably earn more if it was illegal again...silly but true.

"Anyone motivated enough to actually BUY porn will make sure they can get it on their computers."
We think on these same lines Paul, the birth of the internet ruined things for people at first & we soon worked around it so the end of porn on the internet isn't daunting to us as people will still buy porn.

According to what the Mail article says, its seems Cameron and co. are still misunderstanding the whole issue and seeing this as a question of internet providers setting up filters to control what comes into the household. How many times must we explain to the technically illiterate politicians and journalists the schemes they are talking about won't technically work.
If they really wanted to start with feasible actions, they could start with something simple and obvious like require broadcast TV programmes be age-rated like movies and use/show information in the EPG, TiVo/Sky parental controls etc. not rely on the 'watershed' all under 15s are asleep by 9pm illusion. Not sure why the BBC hasn't run with this already.

Rather than being an isolated single step, this measure is possibly the start along the control path.
What's the betting that after a time, the censors will say the opt in policy is making no difference and stricter controls are needed?

ISP level filtering works. It isn't perfect but it only has to be good enough.
ISP filtering in the UK is already done.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleanfeed_ ... _system%29
So what is good enough? Good enough is "parents, if YOU don't want porn in your home, your kids probably won't see porn on your PC until they are willing to try quite hard. And if they do, report it". I think that's probably doable, though like online maps, might take a while to work properly.
Personally, I'd rather have ISP level filtering which I can turn off than ATVOD deciding to ask for powers to "block overseas porn sites becasue they make a mockery of UK law" and then of course adding them all the Cleenfeed.
Of course grown ups with credit cards can always invest in a VPN and bypass everything. Even the Great Firewall of China.
