Yes, because professional TV companies know that WMV is a non-professional, low-grade consumer format and wouldn't touch it unless they were forced to. In any case they would have to pay a commission to offer WMV, that''s why there's no such thing as a camcorder which records in WMV format, which should be an incredibly obvious invention when you think about it (there's also no such thing as a camcorder that records MOV format as far as I know, the reasoning behind that defeats me though).

In fact, if ANYONE can name a combination of camcorder and editing software in which the one actually shoots a format which can immediately load into the other, I'll eat my socks.

I've never used a camcorder to shoot to any other media but MiniDV tape so I can't speak on that. I've used a few camcorders that record to media other than tape but I have always used tape for some reason.

It's just the DSLR (My Nikon D800) that I see shoots the video in .MOV format.
