Yep very true.
The e-mail I sent Emma was about SCC who run the site with my stuff on and yes they will want to control everything so its not for everyone, it suited me for a number reasons so I am happy with it.
Yes I do some work for SCC and have put them in touch with some content providers who are going to supply content to some sites they are going to run, including one model already and two more who wish to do it, but they haven't even started on the content yet, so that is very very far away.
Like you say models don't know how much hard work it is, to get enough content to launch a site is a chore in it's self but to keep that going to it doesn't run out of content, basically once its up, your committed to keep content following.
Whether that is with content share until the site starts making money or you pay for other people to interact with you in scenes, its a big step away from just being a model.
You are in a way part producer, you as a model have to have the creative ideas for scenes, its your stuff so you direct the other people who feature in the scenes, you arrange them and plan them, thats before you even step foot in front of the camera.
I am not saying Emma can't do that by the way, I am just saying that models are going from one type of work to another and all this while giving your site full time commitment and having to choose between a work offer and, "but oh no my site needs updating"..... Hmmmmm tricky one.
It takes a very well organised model to be able to transition and do both but I know a few who have done this really well, including your very good point.......
A model is one of the best marketing tools if she has her own site. She is the object of the fantasy so the more promotion, flirting, cheeky free pics on blogs and social media sites the more it will engage your audience to sign up.
However a web master team like the one who run spunkslutcastingcalls can get affiliates on board to promote beyond how the model knows how to do.
Together they can work well..... Look at Katie Kay, her site is a big success and she works hard at it and it's paid off so prime example of how this can be done effectively and successfully.
There is money to be made a pure totty has said, but starting out completely is more daunting and more of a gamble interms of laying your money on the table as it has ever been, do all this and still get your bastard content ripped off and torrented, its been a bad week for that for me, DCMA notices being sent out all over the place and we come full circle........ One of the reasons this industry is on its arse in the first place. But I am not giving up now, I'm still here, shooting content and paying the bills, thank god certainly a long way away from when I was running things I can tell you.
And do you have to enjoy getting your winky sucked to do this job?????? It does help doesn't it and it feels nice :0)
