LOL I really aint used this expression in such a long time, but here goes... I actually feel dumber for reading this thread...

Makes me wonder if some of the people posting in this thread are actually even in the industry... really... no really ?

Sure that comment will stir up a hornets nest lol !

I was earning more (about 4 times as much) 10 years ago, than I am today with about 4 times as many sites !

Yes people used to share stuff back then, but not like they can today... ripping entire sites. You think it's your members who do it lol... well true to a degree I guess, but there are so many file sharing sites that get requests and then individuals go off and specifically target a site... not really members...

There are more file sharing, torrent, tube sites... anyone who thinks these are not killing the industry are just dumb !

Yes you can monotiries your members area with other stuff, we upsell to other sites, we also have looked at promoting dating, webcam, vod, ect ect... but these should be additional revenue streams... not a replacement for the revenue you should be making from membership sales...

Why should anyone make money off your content without your consent ? So by the same rule I can come round your house, walk into your kitchen and take your fillet steak out your fridge yeah ?

Also there is little to do, yes you can issue a DMCA and hope that they take your shit down, alas a lot of these sites host in weird and wonderful places, and their hosts dont give a shit about a DMCA...

You could use a DRM software, it's been tried in the past and sales dropped for the companies that used it... mind you that was a few years ago and there are rumours about it being tried our again... but yes even the average joe... real bonifidey member wants to download the content on to his/her hard drive so they can bang one out later...

I do agree about producing something unique... the more niche stuff does attract a more loyal member... one that renews their memberships if you can supply them with content that is hard to find... and produce that content well... it will still get stolen of course, but at least you will have a more loyal membership.

Piracy Sucks... it is helping to kill the porn industry, it may not be the only thing, but it is certainly up there ! Will we stop it, nope... There is a organisation being formed to combat it, their is a petition you can sign up to... but I doubt it will have any effect on things...

Yes there are ways to even uterlise the piracy to your advantage, viral marketing being one... but I would argue with anyone that there would be more money made without it...

Man you have a lot of meat in your house, I am definetly on my way round... throw in a chicken and I will buy for sure !

I do agree that there is no stopping Piracy... but people shouldnt say its not hurting/killing the industry, cause it really is...

People should 1. Do what they can to stop their content beign used by others without their permission 2. Look at ways to exploit it 3. Look at making money other ways, as it's getting harder... or 4. as suggested go sell carpets !

UK red tape is the main problem we face.

Pirates are a pain yes but the government is what's keeping us down on our knee's.
For instance we have friends in Spain who knock up a van load of DVD's & sell them to all the shops in their local districts without any restraints where we in Victorian Britain are severely handicapped by red tape, if it wasn't for our kids & grandchildren we would have been out in Spain ourselves doing the same.
Regulating us the way they do in the UK stops us progressing e.g. limited R18 shops, ATVOD, BBFC web sites & XXX web-sites & so on (lets make porn legal but fuck them up so they can't sell it anywhere that easy).
The longer you are in the industry the less stressed you get because you realise what's going on & except this is as good as it gets so its either hang in there or bail out.

For the porn consumer piracy has always been around with the producers / distributors loosing out.

Back 15 years ago it was bootleg VHS copies for less than the genuine tapes but still several ? or even tens of ? each.

DVD then came which was easier, quicker and cheaper to copy so prices fell and there were bulk deals working out ?1 or less a disc.

Now it is DVD rips and copies of website downloads for free or a subscription to download sites which has cut out those making money selling bootleg copies.

The other issue, as already posted, is with the recession, high unemployment, inflation outstripping wage increases etc. consumers have less or no disposable income so the purchases from producers / distributors are less and hence they are offering fewer shoots and / or shoots at lower rates to the models.

Spot on Kim. Whenever I hear a government business minister saying we have to free British industry from red tape and bureaucracy, I always wait for the announcement that the porn trade will be included...and wait... and wait.

So to clarify it's a goverment conspiracy against the porn industry ? Infact all the people out their breaking the law pirating our content are actually a minor concern compared to the big bad goverment... right ? sigh... really !

Wow I must of been living on another planet, or maybe a paralle universe then !

I have run websites for 10 years... I was making 4 times as much, with a quarter of the sites back at the start... said this before of course...

Now 10 years on... after all the file sharing shit, and tube shit, and torrent shit... it's harder to make a sale, I dont doubt the global ecconomy is a factor, but it isnt the main factor, that is the fact you can get most any shit for free...

Now my business is purely web based... maybe these ministers from the dark side might impact on other things, such as DVD creation, with laws that restrict what you can and cant do... so I cant comment on those things...

But to answer the OP question... from my prospective and that of my business... YES it is, I cant really understand anyone saying other wise lol... but hey thats just my two cents

I agree with PureTotty,
There are a number of ways try my bestest to beat of the pirate plonkers (I learnt my tricks as I used to love seeing a website and then tracking the contents for free before i actually moved into the industry)!

We have developed a nice little .php script which detects if more than one IP is logged into an account at the same time and then restarts the password and emails the subscriber. If it happens twice over 24 hours the account is disabled and a report email is sent to our merchant to block the CC and his/her IP is blocked from accessing our network.

My manual way is every few days I check out the logs on the server to see if any incoming enteries are like this twisted:ten@www.website.com - then I manually change their password and send them an email.

Then you have the free tube sites and all other non-affiliate websites. As I push our sites as an affiliate also, I check out forums anyway and always come accross non promotional content which subscribers/pirates have uploaded, but most of the time there is a REPORT link and when contacted all content is taken down within 18hours.

If you cant beat them, join them!
I agree with this to a certain extent as I feel our affiliates are our main priority, so we give them as much as we can to go out there and bring in converting traffic.

We have an account with DMCA but not really had the means to use them.

You might want to check Kitty Kats. Lots of your content on there. That's to both Steve and Twisted.
