It's bad, true, but it's also a tremendous opportunity to diversify and use new technology - using the sort of things that sites like Xtube and Redtube can't replicate.

I'd say there's probably room for an adult equivalent to iTunes' new LP format which Apple's hoping will go some way to steering people away from simple pirated MP3s (it won't be 100 per cent successful but it could bring in a lot of audiophiles who want something as aesthetically pleasing as the LP for the digital age).

Similarly, RedTube and Xtube are great sources for someone who just wants a quick wank but there will always be devout onanists who want that little bit extra. I'm not sure what the business model will be for this brave new world of wanking but there'll undoubtedly be one. I know it's not an easy transfer - having come from the world of journalism where bloggers and tweeters have nicked my job, I understand better than most how shit it is to be in a changing industry - but it helps to remember that wanking isn't going away....just how people get their wank fodder. If you can spot an opportunity and exploit it, then that little retirement fun should start filling up nicely.

I should add that this is all very philosophical and that I don't have the actual answer....if I did, I'd be out shooting with the Mrs right now...but I'm sure it's there.

I think this is a massively interesting point Gareth.
It is true that wanking will never go away, it's too much fun for a start and at the end of the day it doesn't cost a huge amount. Also the health benefits can't be ignored, I recently read that those men who 'clean their pipes out' at least 5 times a week are 60% less likely to develop prostate cancer... (excuse me while I just nip out....)
Okay so I'm back now, but seriously, I guess the thing is to find a niche that people still want to pay for. I reckon you are also right about people wanting a quality product too. I personally don't look at Red-tube or You-porn or whatever because I find free porn is always shit. That is the main reason that I have decided to create my own. I think people will pay for it as long as I don't charge too much.
Anyway, I still need to produce enough to get my site going but it's a work in progress
Fear not guys and gals, I think porn will prevail.... I hope it will anyway.

This 'tube sites have shit porn on' is a fallacy, most tube sites I've come across (no pun intended) have full scene rips from any number of DVD's, quality DVD's like Belladonna's range, Brazzers etc. If you're running into dimly lit amateur videos on your tube travels you're probably on an amateur tube site...

The main reason why tube's will kill this business, and you can take this from the point of view of someone who rarely if ever buys porn, is that if I wanted to get off my 2 options are

1. buy a DVD then wait a week for it to be delivered and then have to go and pay to pick it up because the mail is shit or
2. pay about $10-20 to stream a 10-15 min clip from a site when realistically I'll need about 5 mins worth lol, and so am paying about $240 an hour equivalent.

No thanks. I know it's not a subject talked about on here for whatever reason I don't know but if I wanted a specific title I could google it with some specific search terms attached and find it available on emule, torrent, p2p, magnet links and filesharing sites, and tube/streaming sites.

No one can compete with free and it sucks because it means less and less will be produced :/

It would pay to listen, evaluate and learn from what mp3 has said.

Im thinking a strategy would be to go after the advertisers than the tube sites by coming up with a bigger tueb site where the same content can be included legitmately.

As it is if everyone is going to these sites to get free porn then what are the advertisers selling that makes them think that this audience will buy from them?

I personally think the powers that be, the authorities who have the power to shut these sites down (and they can if they really wanted to) turn a blind eye because they dont care if the industry at large cannibalises on itself.

There is a bigger endgame to having everyone downloading free porn.

Think about it, it gives law enforcement better powers to nick you on something if youve never been nicked for anything in your life.

First thing the old bill check is your hard drive. Imagine how red faced you'd be, a straight man with gay porn of two sweaty hunks with a mouthfull of each others tackles or that transexual video because, oh you was just curious, or heavens forfend..Is that girl 12 years old sir??? Not forgetting your typical baseball up the batty getting you nicked under the new extreme porn bill for the more normal of you that think this dont apply

If you dont have porn on your hard drive then you must be some kind of serial killer and if you dont havr a criminal record or a facebook account then you might be accused of being part of some splinter cell for terrorist activity

Maybe we should all stop producing then? The tube sites would eventually shut down then because they would have hard working people to take the piss out of.
I agree Jack, maybe targeting the advertisers would help the situation.
I know that it is possible to shut down sites easily, I really wonder if you are right about a bigger agenda. I don't like conspiracy theories because I think it is very easy to become paranoid.....(no, they really are out to get me....) but you might have a point.
If piracy is illegal, why then don't the authorities shut down the illegal piracy sites?
I wish I knew an answer, the future doesn't seem quite so bright does it?

Dave with your skills & experience couldn't you shoot girls on a content share basis at first & build a stock of your own to distribute, apart from time it won't cost you anything else.
I know content share is not really accepted but it is a means to an end of getting usable material, a skilled person of your ranking shouldn't be working for others.
We learned a while back that the only way to survive was to help, work & build stock with people in the same boat as us.
In about 2 months time we will be able to accommodate you in a very large flat we will use just for film shoots, parties etc where you can if wish film some of the shoots on a content share basis (no fee's).
If we start the ball rolling other producers might feel guilty & follow suite offering you a similar deal to help you out.

As for the terminal decline...porn will evolve & survive in many forms & we will adapt, if you look at posts on here 5 years ago you will read the same thing & it will be the same 5 years from now..
