An important thing to remember, Kaz, is that designing and getting a paysite working is only the first step. If you want to make money, the hard part is getting traffic to it - and that is an ongoing job for someone.

Unless your friend knows enough about sites to update it and advertise it herself, she would do better to enter into a long term arrangement with a webdesigner/webmaster she can trust.

Just FYI, in London the standard rate for a pro webdesigner is ?80-?90 per hour (really!!).

In the sticks, you can look for half that, but a full paysite for ?500 sounds ok to me.....You kind of get what you pay for though. Expect prices to raise sharply if you want flash, but IMO, it's not necessary.

I would also say ?500 is not a bad price.

Back when i worked for a multi-national, their Enterprise Developer was on ?132,000 + Bonus + Expenses so about ?500 a DAY.
