It is merely because Mohammed is a very very very popular name for Muslims. Most first born boys are called 'Mohammed'. There are also many different spellings dependent on the region and language (North Africa to Bangladesh.......Arabic to Punjabi etc) and I'm guessing these name surveys lump all the Mohammeds in together.

Many Muslim boys have the first name 'Mohammed' but have a 2nd name that the family use to discern between all the bloody Mohammeds in the house! Haha.

For the record, the number of different spellings:

4.1 Mohamad
4.2 Mohamed
4.3 Mohammad
4.4 Mohammed
4.5 Muhamad
4.6 Muhamed
4.7 Muhammad
4.8 Muhammed
4.9 Muhammet

The eradication of the native language, race, traditions and culture from Britain is apparently a good thing, according to the Left. It's all part of the rich multi-cultural society! Anyone who saw that documentary two weeks ago with Trevor Phillips about race would have seen him say that they got it terribly wrong when he was head of the Equality Commission under Blair. But there is nothing anyone can do.

Oh dear, Max. You need to relocate to Blackpool. The native language, race (whatever that is), traditions and culture are still going strong. I'll buy you a 99 on the pier, a pint of Real Ale and a Kiss Me Quick hat.

You give the impression that you need it! Cheer up, it's the Easter holidays!

You guessed right.

Otherwise Muhammad makes 15th place. The real winner is Oliver. That's in England and Wales by the way. In Scotland Muhammad only makes 52nd place and their winner is Jack.

Interestingly, on the 'adding variants together' way of doing things Oliver still comes out on top in England and Wales. Because if you add all the Muhammad variants together, you can also add Ollie to Oliver which then trumps Muhammad.

All variants of Muhammad, Mohammed etc = 7,445
But Oliver with 6,949 plus Ollie with 800 = 7,749

Sounds nice. At least they speak English in Blackpool. It's a real culture shock leaving London and visiting towns in other parts of the country. I have relatives in the Home Counties and I always find it strange, but in a nice way, when I visit and hear people speaking English on the bus and in the street - a language that used to be commonly spoken in London. Even the 'Big Issue' sellers in towns outside London speak English, in London most are headscarf-clad Romanian gypsies outside supermarkets uttering the words "Beeg e-su, Beeg e-su" as you go by. I've been to Blackpool, and I recall hearing English spoken there.

I do find this a tad melodramatic Max.

We have had this conversation before Max, but London is clearly a global hub for loads of people. And you need to remember that as one of the biggest tourist spots in the world at any one time you would probably have hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors. And they don't come to see Hackney, they all seem to congregate in central London.

A lot are visitors, yes, but a lot are settled too. Have a read of the comment I've just posted on the other thread where I deal with all this in more detail. As I say on there, I'm in favour of diversity but not domination. A reasonable view to have, me thinks.
