This seems to be a new thing. "South Park" depicted Mohammed in an episode and nothing was said whatsoever. It wasn't until the Jyllands-Posten controversy that all this kicked off.

The pope says there are limits to freedom of expression and that in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris ?one cannot make fun of faith?.

This strikes me as nonsensical. THe point being made by both French and British governments is that:

1. We have free speech (allegedly) in our countries, though there are limitations on that free speech e.g. inciting racial or religious hatred.
2. Poking fun at a religion does not fit into those restrictions on freedom of speech whether it be Christianity, Judaism, Islam or whatever.
3. You may well be offended at anybody poking fun, representing your prophet in a drawing or whatever. That is your right.
4. What you cannot do, is, having been offended, to go out and firebomb or kill the people who are exerting their right to free speech.

All this self censorship that seems to be going on is very concerning.

I do not think free speech should be limitless. Calling for people to kill or harm others is dangerous.

But the freedom to have honesty, satire and the criticism of anything, no matter what, is a must.

Religion will nearly always fight this because they know that dishonesty, unthinking obedience and ignorance is their bread and butter.

I find it hard to believe he actually advocated violence if someone insulted his mother. This is normal he said.
What sort of teaching is this? From a Pope? What happened to turning the other cheek?
