I'm not clued up on it. And Arg's 'N word' only gave me a 50/50 shot at getting what he meant!

It is offensive in the same way as calling someone who's disabled 'handicapped'.
It's not really a direct, abusive remark but it is outdated and can offend people. There are lots of words you may not find offensive, but you'd refrain from using them in certain company, if only to be polite.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure these shows have a code of conduct and if 'negro' is on that list, and he signed the contract agreeing to their rules, it's his own fault.

How is calling someone who is disabled handicapped offensive? They ARE handicapped.

If you saw a soldier back from Afghanistan with a leg blown off would you call him a 'cripple' because he is crippled?

'Fattie' isn't really that offensive to me, but I wouldn't keep using the word 'fattie' when referring to fat people, especially when other fat people are around. It may offend them. It may embarrass them. It may make them feel uncomfortable. I wouldn't use it.
We always talk about the British losing their culture and how our values don't seem to be important or defended anymore. Well how about the one thing we Brits are/were renowned for worldwide? Good old British politeness.

And don't ask me why I spelt 'fatty' as 'fattie'.

Not the same and you know it.

It's EXACTLY the same and you know it. Look up the definition of 'cripple' and you'll see it covers soldiers with blown off legs.
You wouldn't use it though because it would be offensive, even if you yourself didn't find it offensive.
