When the Stephen Lawrence memorial was defaced, CCTV was erected very quickly afterwards.

'As for "4 innocent Muslims", the Muslims involved are no more innocent than the British solders who shot unarmed, injured and incapacitated Afghans are innocent.'
I suppose if our guys operating overseas keep what they do within the rules of warfare then they have our sympathy and support - it is the politicians who sent them there who we have the issue with. Any who operate outside of the rules, and beat up prisoners, torture prisoners, are very trigger-happy and shoot dead innocent people for fun, then those soldiers should be up in Court and jailed if found guilty. In fact I think a few have been.
'Given the timing, I think the likeliest perpetrators are Muslim extremists but at the moment we just don't know.'
It seems very likely.
'As for minimum jail terms, I am not so sure about that. I prefer to leave it in the hands of magistrates or whoever to use discretion.'
If not minimal jail terms then a jail term with what most would view as a reasonable tarriff should be a dead-cert with something like this, rather like how you get automatic jail for burglary for instance. Remember that kid Charlie Gilmour, son of the Pink Floyd man, who was jailed for 16 months for swinging off a flag at the Cenotaph? He got 16 months, although part of it was for throwing a dustbin at Prince Charles' car. For some reason he only served 4 months though.

I suspect the reason the media gave it some billing but not huge billing was because they saw it as important but not hugely important. In my view this should be seen as being just as bad as someone defacing the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield, and the press coverage and the politician's responses should be equal to that.

I remember one time when the Stephen Lawrence memorial in Eltham was defaced the Home Secretary Jack Straw immediately cleared his diary and went straight down there. That was right to do. Defacing the 7/7 memorial should be treated the same way. Hopefully CCTV cameras will now be installed overlooking the 7/7 memorial in Hyde Park too.

Has anyone defaced the Hillsborough memorial or is this just hypothesising?
