Asda on the Isle of Dogs has a large halal section.
Tesco in Beckton has a halal section.

There is no proscription on selling it - only consuming it.

I've not problem with Halal if the animals are stunned first, and the animal dies before coming back round. But how long is the animal, on average, unconscious? Draining a cow of it's blood until it naturally falls unconscious due to low blood pressure could take longer than the affect of being stunned. If the animal remains unconscious until death, it's not an issue for me.
I do, however, have a problem with allowing Halal abattoirs to kill animals without stunning (Subway may only take stunned animals but many other Halal butchers etc don't). I find it hypocritical and discriminatory to force abattoirs to kill their animals in a safe, humane way, but allow other abattoirs to do it a different way on religious grounds.
And even if the animals are stunned first, when I think about it, I'm still uncomfortable with the mindset of anyone who thinks slaughtering animals by slashing the arteries and esophagus is a great way to kill another living thing. It's 2014 for fucks sake.

All chicken in Pizza Express is halal too. Says so on the website but not on the menu.
From The Sun:
PIZZA Express is using halal chicken in every meal that contains the meat ? but customers only find out if they ask.
The chain decided to only serve chicken that is killed in line with strict Islamic law after feedback from Muslim customers.
But diners are not warned in advance the chicken they will be eating is halal. There is no mention of it on menus and staff only tell customers if they ask.
Islam says chicken can only be eaten if the bird?s throat has been slit while it is still alive.
A verse from the Koran is also recited.
Some non-Muslims object to halal because they claim the ritual killing can cause unnecessary suffering.

Of course if they didn't sell pork chops from the butcher's or alcohol from the corner shop, you would be slagging Muslims off for trying to impose their religion on the general population, wouldn't you.
If it is what their customers want and it is legal, why should they not sell these items? They understand that people have different religious beliefs and accept that.
Unlike some......

And anything owned by the Whitbread group. So that's Beefeater 'restaurants' Premier Inn, and Costa Coffee all serving you halal meat without your knowledge.
Wembley Stadium is virtually all halal, several hospitals and other public bodies buy all halal meat chances are if you're in hospital you're being given halal, as you're children are with school dinners.
Of course, they don't tell you this because they know what the result would be.
Mandatory and prominent labelling "WE USE CRUELY SLAUGHTERED MEAT HERE" should exist for people who want to suck up to the 'people who must never be criticised for anything ever'
Or better still, do a Denmark.

Maybe it is a "business" decision, but still the thin end of the wedge. give it a few more years and it'll likely be another 185. then another.

I suppose the uncomfortable truth we are all pussyfooting around is that whether the animal is killed "humanely" or halal or kosher, it is still killed for us to eat it or make shoes or belts or handbags out of.
If you are going to eat meat you have to accept this ? or become a vegetarian/vegan.
