Sorry about that...correct details is that number 10 became aware and called the police 3 weeks ago but wasn't in the public domain until the daily Mail today.
Very usual that it's taken so long for news of one of the MPs closest advisors being arrested especially for this charge to take so long to get reported, which brings me back to the softening up joe voter campaign over the last couple of weeks.
I read it in the Daily Mail

If it's all a political conspiracy and No 10 pulled strings, how do you explain the fact that the Old Bill kept secret the details of Jimmy Tarbuck's arrest for about ten days? Was that because he's a Tory as well?

Jimmy Tarbuck was never an aide to the Prime Minister - or was involved in any way with how the country was run. Patrick Rock, was.
Given part of Patrick Rock's job was drawing up plans for pron filters (which no doubt included ways of protecting people from child pornography), it is ironic that he has been arrested for viewing child abuse images, totally making a mockery of the whole thing. It's like the Pope being outed as an atheist........or the Man City manager referring to his team as Man Utd.

Sam
I never said or hinted or implied that Jimmy Tarbuck was an aide to the PM.
My points were:
1) the police do not always reveal the names of arrestees so there is no reason to know Paul Dacre knew Patrick Rock had been arrested.
2) it is daft to think that the Mail ran the story linking Harman, Dromey and Hewitt to PIE as a cover because they knew some publicly unknown figure at No 10 had been arrested for child porn and wanted to give the Tories cover.

Sam/Essex Lad
"but Harmen may have been used to dampen the blow (and the DM come out of it looking all fair and objective). Especially given the timing of it all - dredging a story up from the 70s a week before this happens."
I agree with Essex Lad. I don't think the Daily Mail cares at all about being fair and objective or dampening down one story with another. If it does, I imagine that collectively it would be suicidal by now.
They will smear anybody just to sell a few newspapers. The story about Harman is daft. And let's not forget that although yer man, Rock has resigned, he has not been charged with anything, never mind convicted as far as I know.
