I'm beginning to think you have a very good point about the leftie BBC getting carried away by the death of "terrorist" Mandela.

I was thinking about what other funerals had wall to wall coverage on the leftie BBC.

Margaret Thatcher - well known leftie masquerading as a Tory
Princess Di - used to see her regularly with Mao's Little Red Book poking out of her Gucci bag.
Queen Mother - Commie who liked horses.
Winston Churchill - "We'll fight them Tories on the beaches, we will never surrender..."

I am beginning to see a trend here, can you?

'Other Peoples Money' syndrome. Its easy to spend it when you don't have to earn it.

We have need of you again, great king.

Sources, Essex Lad, sources

Post by David Johnson »

I'm sure you just forgot to mention your sources.

Was it this story, perhaps?

Ah bless the Daily Mail, ever dependable, eh Disgusted of Essex, Lad?

Did I miss the Daily Mail article berating the BBC for the amount of time and resources it deployed for Thatcher's funeral? Or on the Queen Mother's funeral? Do please provide the link if I missed them.

You know, I had a quick look at the article and knock me down with a feather, there was no mention of the following:

1. The BBC is generally regarded as one of the best state broadcasters in the world. If you are in the unfortunate situation of being out of Essex and indeed, this sceptred isle, and find yourself watching state broadcasters overseas, you will know what I mean.

2. The BBC gets slagged off by the Labour government when it is in power and the Tories when they are in power. So it must be doing something right if it gets up the political noses of governments of different persuasions.

3. Unlike the other broadcasters you reference the BBC provides substantial output for TV, radio and online.

Long live the BBC!

Why did you put the word terrorist in inverted commas David?

"Why did you put the word terrorist in inverted commas David?"

Because in other threads it has been used as a fact when basically it is an opinion. As was discussed, one man's "terrorist" is another man's "freedom fighter". "Terrorist" is typically used to denote perceived evil activity e.g. al Qaeda. "Freedom fighter" although it might be used to describe someone involved in similar activities e.g. planting bombs is viewed as something less worthy of condemnation.

If you asked people about the members of the French Resistance who carried out an undercover campaign against the Nazi occupation by blowing up various factories and installations, I suspect the majority would refer to the French resistance as "freedom fighters", not "terrorists".

I have a similar attitude to the life of Mandela.

Well looking at how many people were murdered (usually by machete or one of Winnie's "necklaces") by the ANC most British serial killers are saints....
Mandela was like Robert Kennedy and Obi Wan...a rock star politician with a great marketing machine. South Africa is a corrupt and far more dangerous state now than ever. If being the rape (male and female) and murder capital of the world is progress then I stand corrected. Wonder who is going to get all his lovely shirts?

I'm not disgusted at all, merely resigned.

Er no why would it? It may have escaped your notice (I realise that you're quite short-sighted on certain topics) but both Mrs Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth were British ? one was the longest serving PM of the 20th Century and the other was the monarch's consort. As I have said before I don't understand why there is a statue of Mandela in Parliament Square. What did he do for this country to merit such an honour?

A complete non-sequitur. Utterly irrelevant. What has that got to do with it sending staff to South Africa? Are you suggesting that they went there on an altruistic mission to show Johnny Foreigner how a proper broadcaster behaves?

Apart from the Gilligan farce, it gets slagged off far less by Labour than the Conservatives despite the misguided view by some on here that the BBC is biased towards the Conservatives.

What other broadcasters do I reference? And please provide the sources disputing the original story.

Agreed but not in the monolithic form it takes today.

Disgusted of Essex, Lad

Thanks for confirming that it was the most contemptible paper in British journalism that you used for your story. The rest of your reply is Little Englander, Disgusted of Essex, Tory hogwash.
