David:

As you must know, the British government had the chance when Poland joined the EU to put in place transitional controls, but unlike all other major EU states, decided not to. The result was half a million Polish immigrants. Those controls cannot now be put in place, Tony Blair had the chance to do it and he blew it. I can't believe you don't know this. I don't think much of the coalition, but you cannot blame them for Tony Blair's mistakes.

"Unrestricted immigration of cheap labour puts British workers on the dole."

Another lie. So if there no immigrants we would have full employment then.

I am not blaming them for Tony Blair's mistakes and I have stated many, many times on this forum, the Labour government made a big mistake in not taking advantage of the transitional arrangements to stop Polish immigration until the end of the transition period.

Having said that the coalition are clearly letting in unlimited European immigration because as you know other than the relevant transitional periods, no British government can stop inward migration from the EU. In that sense there is absolutely no difference between the governments.

You are accusing the coalition of not doing something, when you know quite well there is nothing they can do. They cannot revisit the transitional arrangements. As long as we are in the EU, we have to allow unrestricted EU immigration. It's as simple as that.

Funny in the Sixties and Seventies Labour was anti-immigration and anti-EU and now they embrace both like long lost brothers.

The only difference between the Tories and Labour over immigration whilst in government is that the Labour government stupidly did not take advantage of the transitional arrangements for Poland.

Other than that it is a similar approach so if you are going to criticise Labour you have to accept similar criticism of the Tories. As we know Cameron is pro-EU and has been forced into promising an EU vote by his Eurosceptic wing.

I agree Cameron is pro EU and as such cannot alter EU immigration. But you have to accept that it makes no sense to criticise Cameron when the only man who had a chance to do something was Tony Blair, and he chose not to do it.

No I do not accept that. Cameron could have done something. He has been in power for three and half years. Rattling on and on about what the Labour government did/did not do as you and the Tories do, will not wash.

Plenty of time to have an in/out vote. The reason we are still in the EU is down to this government. The reason that living standards have gone down in just about every month the Tories have been in power is down to this government. The reason that the deficit is the same last year as it will be this year is down to the government.

Power comes with responsibility.
