I'm going to be pedantic here. Essex lad is correct. Britain is actually England and Wales. Great Britain is England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.

There is also the British Isles which includes Ireland but that is geographical.

We have an English team for football but when its comes to the Olympics it is 'Team GB' the problem of a national identity crisis's was highlighted at the very start of the London Olympic games when the BBC commentators repeatedly stated 'England this and England that', if you are from Wales or Scotland you'll understand this problem, however if you are English you'll more than likely not really notice or care.

I am bollocksed as to why people cannot get this correct. My dad was English born of English parents. My mum was English born of English parents. My brothers and me were born in England. Therefore They and me were and are English.
When with Scottish Welsh and Irish friends were are collectively British. They are still individually Scottish Welsh and Irish.

Does that include friends from the Republic of Ireland?

Are they British too?
