Can anyone explain the reasoning for making someone who loses their job wait a week before they can make a claim for benefits??? Other than tory spite.

Yes!

It's to save on the welfare bill. These blasted scroungers have ruined the country. Just look at the mess we are in because of people losing their jobs. Idle scum! What do they expect for paying national insurance contributions all their working life? Dole money? I say No! they should be finding where the nearest food bank is and asking Tesco's for a cardboard box to live in.

But seriously. Hopefully this will be the last straw and they will top themselves so we don't have to pay out a pension when they get to 80.

Treasury Secretary Danny Alexander told the BBC that extending the waiting period would bring the UK more in line with other countries, and help make job centre services more intensive and efficient.

Mr Osborne said: "Those first seven days should be spent looking for work and not looking to sign on."

Apparently this will save ?350 million.

And the savings will keep on giving as thanks to Jeffrey more and more people will end up on the dole and so that means more people now having to wait a week to sign on which means that he will appear to be saving more cash than if less people had to sign on.

I don't really see how it makes services more intensive and efficient. It's easy to flag that up as a benefit if you're not asked to explain.

People in genuine need would have recourse to a Crisis Loan. Perhaps thay should make people aware of that ?

Given the universal credit will be allegedly rolled out over the next few years, I don't see how the delay in jobseekers allowance payment for a week is going to work with the IDS flagship project given that jobseekers will be paid monthly under that system.

THe old Crisis Fund disappeared on April 1st (how appropriate) 2013.



Funding has been devolved to local councils who will vary in the amounts and approach used with regard to such payments.

The government has not set any rules on how councils spend the money, and funding is not guaranteed at all beyond April 2015.

Considering the levels the scum I work with clocked up its not surprising (1500 single person) of course they all knew about the social fund whereas the average unemployed person doesn't, I only found out when started this job.

My personal fav was the community care grant where you got money to which you never had to repay, of course my dregs knew all about and would always complain that the ?800 (conservative approximation) they got to start up home (of course nice council pace) wasn't enough and the social was taking the piss.
