Of course Osborne has failed. No one has answered my question though. Which is would anyone else have done better? The answer is no.

But what has Osbourne done? Nothing! We need someone with different policies like lowering VAT to 15% for a set period. George has frightened people and they stopped spending money in the economy. Because we have no clear sight of things improving they are hanging on to their money. Same with companies. They are cash rich.

I know many people with good incomes who are better off than they were since interest rates came down on their mortgages. Yet they are scared to spend. They stopped doing the shopping at Waitrose and now go to Lidl.

George has caused the worst recovery in 100 years. I am not convinced by Ed Balls but Yes, someone can do better.

The answer is yes. The Labour government were and would have done better. By how much I don't know but they would have done better.

For example look at the last of the slides in this link which shows quarterly growth figures from 2007 to the last quarter.

What do you notice? In 5 successive quarters between early 2009 and early 2010 there was growth in the economy.

So what happened when the Tories got in in May 2010.

1. Exactly as Labour and the Lib Dems prior to the 2010 election predicted i.e. that by cutting too much too quickly, the Tories would hammer the economy and crush a fragile economic recovery which was occurring under Labour.. The Lib Dems sold out on their views completely in return for power.

2. The Tories then proceeded to destroy consumer confidence by comparing the UK to Greece and stating that the country was on the point of collapse. They did this to limit opposition to their cuts. Even though this was complete nonsense, people did concentrate on saving rather than spending and paying down their debts as a result of which there was a big retail business collapse.

3. As a result of their policies, the British economy has flatlined ever since which is why even the IMF are stating that Osborne should ease back on austerity.

So could other policies have been more successful, of course they could. If Labour had stayed in power money would have been put into infrastructure to get construction working again rather than do what the Tories did which as to destroy as many planned infrastructure projects as possible in 2010 only to have to reintroduce some of them years later when they realised they had made a big mistake. ANd there would be no attempts to smash consumer confidence which is what the Tories did.

THere's your answer.

Have a good weekend.

Everyone can vote for an alternative economic policy in 2015. In the meantime we all have austerity to look forward too. !sad!
