Thank you folks for responding; I like to know how others think. I am glad
Cocker and a few others see my point, but also fascinated by those who
clearly would object to anyone else but them disciplining their own child. In
my day the teachers did it and perhaps your parents. This is no longer the
case at school and, while I accept those of you who say you will deal with
punishment for your own kids, the truth is most unruly kids are unruly
precisely because their parents do not discipline them in any way !!
My general point was that the World is not made better by being so laid back
and lax but, as a couple of you have said, thats the World we now live in !
Good manners have basically left Britain anyway, chavs rule !

I totally agree there is a major lack of discipline these days and I cringe at the thought of that some children I was at school being parents or even now grandparents.

I certainly don't thing my parents were harsh but if I did wrong I expected to be told off and punished in some way e.g. no sweets for a time but certainly got a slap at times too as did most children of similar age.

Similarly if caught by a neighbour a stern telling off by them was expected and another one at least from my parents once they were told.
Should the neighbour not get around to telling my parents I considered myself very lucky.
