"He is contesting that."
He contests everything.
See above regarding his thinking that he is above the law and that laws do not apply to him.

As the UK prison system is seen as some kind of college for criminals, will we see Chris Huhne in a few years, being sentenced for being a bank robbing, gun toting, cop killing rapist?
It's a slippery slope. Starts with the gateway sentence for perverting the course of justice and before you know it, he's shanking a snitch in the shower block. !tongueincheek!
I agree with you that this will hit him harder than a huge-ish fine.
Nothing says to Huhne 'I done wrong' like a few months sharing a cell with Daddy Bear, who works him like a glove puppet every night. !hump1!
He will no doubt be a changed man, on his release.

Yup the man with no shame whatsoever except when a TV camera is pointed at him, is contesting the costs.
Southwark Crown Court was told the cost of prosecuting Huhne was ?79,015, despite his guilty plea on the day of his trial. This was because at least a dozen hearings were held before the trial in which he tried to get the case thrown out of court.
In addition, he was told to pay ?31,000 for a police inquiry into claims an Essex detective was in improper contact with Pryce?s friend Constance Briscoe. No evidence of wrongdoing was found.
So now we have another expensive hearing for legal counsel to sort it out.
If he wriggles out of paying up which I suspect, if anything he will only get a reduction, his reputation as an arse wipe will be immeasurably enhanced.

I read that his QC charges up to ?20,000 a day. I'm in the wrong job...
