I think Spider meant that if Mrs Thatcher had not privatised the water (gas, electric, coal (!), railways (perm any one from three) we wouldn't be in this mess. When utilities are run for private greed rather than public good, the consumer gets shafted...

Essex Lad - that is exactly what I meant.

........and in so doing has ultimately put these once great national assets that our forebears built with the sweat of their toil, into the hands of foreigners! Thatcher a "Patriot?" She should be hung for treason!

I recall when all these privatisation were going through the mantra was that "introducing competition to the market would drive down prices and drive up service".

Can someone tell me where the competition is in the Water industry?

As far as I know there's only one supplier I can get my water services from.

Everyone knows the big six power companies are running a pricing cartel.

I now have to buy my water from a French owned company, Electric - French, Gas - German, Mobile Phone - Spanish.

I used to bank with National Girobank (a government owned bank many years ago), that's now Spanish owned!

Hanging is too good for her!

Yes you are right, "Hanging" is far too good for her! In the good old days, for the punishment for High Treason, she would have been, "Hung, drawn and quartered" which was far better than hanging and also at least provided some entertainment for the old folks!

Perhaps we could put this out to tender.

Whoever paid the most for the TV rights gets the job.

If they put it on pay-for-view I'd pay good money to see her take her punishment.

I bet it would be a foreign company though who ended up with the rights.

I have heard that the French twatts who rob Kent by supplying expensive water have a main from Scotland, through the Chunnel to supply cooling water to their nuclear reactors on the Channel coast. If them bastards can take water from Scotland then our useless fucking govt should insist that they, and other water companies down here in the parched but drenched south, should combine and build a water distribution main from the north to the south. I did read that it would be cheaper than the overpriced and mostly unwanted high speed rail link to Birmingham. Now that would be an engineering project that would serve the nation, and I am sure that the expertise is available in the UK.

This "drought" nonsense is foistered onto the British public and some seem to fall for it.
I have lived and worked all over the world. Hungary, where I am based,
will have 30 celsius this weekend and we shall see some summer days right
up to November in the upper 30s celsius or even 40. Do the Hungarians
rabbit on about drought ? No.
Hungary you will note has only one real freshwater lake. England has a
whole bloody district of them.
When I lived in Los Angeles, a city in a desert, or Las Vegas, was there a
hose pipe ban ? No. Did the sprinkler systems water the neatly cut lawns
every day ? You betcha !
The "drought", which has been going on in Britain as long as I can
remember, is just an excuse for inefficiency from the privatised water
companies. !
Bollocks to them, turn on the taps, splash in the bath if you want, and
if Mr Slip wants to get the noose for Mrs Thatcher, I`ll slip him a bob or two
towards it.
