What the fuck is "Life" these days? Presumably it is 12 years and if you don't hack anyone to death whilst inside and behave like a normal human being, you're out again in 6 to continue causing mayhem.

Lock him up and don't let him out.

If he watched a video about eye gouging the night before it sounds premeditated - 6 years is nowhere near enough.

Definitely do not let him - or other violent offenders - out until they accept responsibility and express remorse and change, and even then only after a mimimum that reflects severity of the offence.

He was violent before. What gave him the idea he could do this? Would stronger intervention earlier have prevented this happening?
