For a number of people the argument goes.

1. I was not very well off under Labour.
2. I am not very well off under the Tory led government
3. Therefore all politicians and political parties are the same.

This is obviously wrong in general. The reason that it is wrong is that whenever I put up the message below outlining some of the achievements of the Labour government, everyone who takes the above view goes very, very, very quiet.

No-one on this forum has ever been able to answer the question posed in the post above.

"The task is to provide a list of all the marvellous policies of Thatcher and co, I look forward to your lists. I just want a list of the acts introduced by Thatcher and why they were such a benefit?

I look forward to the deafening silence.

Oh before I forget Jimbo

"You find me an old die hard Labour supporter who idolises this present day party like you do and I'd faint with shock. Most old timers would spit on the lot of them!"

This has nothing to do with my views on Labour and as usual is a complete misrepresentation of what I think about Labour which is much more negative than you outline.

Never mind, if posting this stuff is therapeutic for you, good luck!

Well Allelulah and Praise the Lord!, New labour created a Heaven on Earth for us all............so tell me how come they didn't win a landslide victory at the last election?? Oh I know, the Tories hypnotised everyone!

BTW I love that bollocks about, "Crime dropped under New Labour" had me in stitches! Well crime would "drop" if you fix all the stats to suit yourself and you ensure that people can't be arsed reporting crime anymore because its pointless......classic New Labour spin!

Bag 'o' shite!

Oh and I see your NL controllers forgot to add the following entries:

Waging an illegal war for oil and killing thousands of people
Making NL politicians and public sector fat cats VERY RICH
Flogging ALL our gold for bugger all
Allowing bankers to steal all our money
Bankrupting the country

Bag 'o' shite!

Well argued, intelligent and full of detail. Definitely one of your better posts.

So you disagree with the crime figures, fair enough. Do you disagree with the fact that Labour introduced the minimum wage, since you bring it up in your reply to Number 6? And they introduced it against vehement opposition from the Tories and the Tory press. And what about all the other items in the list e.g. Surestart, Disability Benefits, Winter Fuel Allowance, free bus travel for the elderly etc etc etc.?

You seem to have missed the very simple question

If all politicians are the same, I've given you a Labour list, where is your Thatcher list, James?

As usual you can't answer it just as you havent been able to answer it for 2 years! How pathetic?

Bag 'o' shite indeed, Mr Slip. Hilarious with it too. I look forward to your posts.

!ambulance! for Mr Slip, his nerves are playing up again.

Given you get your summary from the following site

http://www.esherwalton.com/

the Elmbridge Conservatives and Esher Walton Conservative Association, could I make the following observation?

Do you not think there might be a eensy teensy bit of bias here?

Secondly, given Jimbo's piss poor attempt to reply to my challenge for 2 years, what about your good self? What did the Tories under Thatcher do for the British people in terms of beneficial laws passed which helped the poor and Joe Public as a whole?

I could slag off the Tories just as your Conservative Association post slags off Labour. Try to be positive Peter and pick out some of the good things you think Thatcher did. Maybe Esher Walton and Elmbridge Tories have a list of their own?

Here you go David & Jim, hope this helps you resolve your differences.

I found it on the completely neutral and unbias !wink! margaretthatcher.org...

Margaret Thatcher remains an intensely controversial figure in Britain. Critics claim that her economic policies were divisive socially, that she was harsh or 'uncaring' in her politics, and hostile to the institutions of the British welfare state. Defenders point to a transformation in Britain's economic performance over the course of the Thatcher Governments and those of her successors as Prime Minister. Trade union reforms, privatisation, deregulation, a strong anti-inflationary stance, and control of tax and spending have created better economic prospects for Britain than seemed possible when she became Prime Minister in 1979.

Critics and supporters alike recognise the Thatcher premiership as a period of fundamental importance in British history. Margaret Thatcher accumulated huge prestige over the course of the 1980s and often compelled the respect even of her bitterest critics. Indeed, her effect on the terms of political debate has been profound. Whether they were converted to 'Thatcherism', or merely forced by the electorate to pay it lip service, the Labour Party leadership was transformed by her period of office and the 'New Labour' politics of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown would not have existed without her. Her legacy remains the core of modern British politics: the world economic crisis since 2008 has revived many of the arguments of the 1980s, keeping her name at the centre of political debate in Britain.

I personally loathed her, but it was her government that allowed so many people to buy their own homes, the vast majority of these people went on to live much better lives, a lot started their own business's and did well for themselves. Also the unions which were strangling Britian were reigned in, I think the home ownership, ie the right to buy probably had a more profound effect on the country than anything the Labour party have ever done in the last 15yrs.
