I can`t believe what I am reading here ! Lads the facts are these: putting
aside the history that the Argies have always lusted after the Malvinas,
the islanders are 95% of British stock and proud of it - the current female
ruler of Argentina, ( with economic problems of its own) lusts after the oil
reserves she sees British business potentially reaping.
That said, I am sure with any chance of oil reserves there HM Govt is not
going to let the Argies have it - or the islands - back. But, pure cynicism
aside, the islanders, literally to the last one, wish to stay British and after
a war just 30 years old HMG cannot simply "give", "return" or "hand"
them over to Argentina. Never mind not being on the cards. It ain`t even
in the same room.

I'm not saying "give", "return" or "hand over", I'm saying sell for the right price.
You know like HMG has sold off everything else that we ever owned.

This could start a trend.
Any other islands we could sell.
How about the Isle of Man. Just sat there in the middle of the Irish sea doing nothing. Gibralter, bet the spanish would pay a pretty penny for that.
And maybe we could swap an aircraft carrier with the French for the Channel Islands.

With Argentina in the dire mess it is with money do you think they have the money to buy the falklands - they want it for the oil revenue simple and they will make a go for it they are just trying to work out how to do it with minimal cost - all the military cuts will make it easy for them and when they do make a play for it then we will lose them. There is no way we could defend those islands now.
So Argentina will try to bargain with us and see if they can get them without going to war and of course UK.inc would be shit scared to go to war incase we lost.

?With Argentina in the dire mess it is with money do you think they have the money to buy the Falklands??
If there is oil in the region surely Argentina could do a deal with the big Oil Companies to raise some money to buy the islands, you know like some kind of PFI deal.
Selling the islands has got to be a way forward.
It saves the UK the cost of defending the islands.
If there is oil in the region it saves us the cost and difficulty of getting the oil out, that falls to Argentina and we just get the money for the oil without us having all the bother.
The Islanders can be taken care of with say a 5% cut of the proceeds.
I?m not saying the negotiations are going to be easy or that deciding on the price tag is going to be a five minute job.
Experience is that Privatisations take months and months, sometimes several years, to plan and implement.
In the past of course whole industries were sold off at a knock-down price, but hopefully the Government have learned from that and will negotiate a realistic price tag this time round.
Just think, if planning started now the deal could be done and dusted by the 35th anniversary of the war.
Just think how many billions this could deliver to pay off a big chunk of the deficit that the last Government left the country with.
What?s not to like about this as a Government Policy.

Actually Bernard, the CI's do not belong to the UK. They are independant in their own right with their own government. So, I think they would kick up a very large fuss if that was attempted. As for Frog military hardware, it aint the worlds best I might add.
