The new big cheese at Apple has been bombarded with e-mails from UK users over the past couple of days, so much that he's had to reply saying along the lines of "Don't worry, we haven't brought him in to bring the Dixons feel to Apple"
Does seem a very crazy appointment on the face of it.
Glitters come back
Re: Did Glitter destroy the PC service industry?
We have need of you again, great king.
Re: Glitters come back
Essex Lad wins the award for the best post in this thread with his comment above that he doubts that the Daily Mail story is true. The NFL have now stated that it's not true.
The claim by Meatus that the song is "played during Superbowls" has also been denied, an NFL spokesman saying that it hasn't been played at the Super Bowl since 2006.

This is false!!! Its been played at every Superbowl since 2006 but its been a cover version by the band "Tube Tops 2000" (No, me neither!). But the Indianapolis Colts who's stadium the Superbowl is in this year still use the Glitter Version which lead to the speculation that it would be played this year. Though a spokesman has now confirmed that it won't be played at all, not even the cover version!

No. Not according to the NFL.
According to an official statement by the NFL, "no version of that song has been played at the Super Bowl since 2006".
Pay attention to the phrase "no version of that song".

I've watched the Super Bowl every year for over 20 years and i've heard it!!!! Even after 2006!!! And this gets brought up often!!!! And the explanation in recent years is that it hasn't been the Glitter version but the cover version!!! The reason it was brought up again this year as because the Indianapolis Colts play the song at every home game and it was reported in press reports that this would earn Glitter royalty cash. The NFL came out and said it would not be played this year at all, Glitters version or a cover version. And after watching the Superbowl last night it wasn't played at all, at least not during the broadcast i watched, perhaps it was played in the stadium as it cut to the studio anchors. Though i doubt it due to the furore! Though it has been played during Super Bowls after 2006 because i've heard it, unless my ears are playing tricks on me? And also this season i've heard during Indianapolis Colt games live on Sky Sports, i also heard it 2 weeks ago on ESPN during an LA Lakers basketball game, i have know idea whether this was Glitters version or the cover version by the Tube Tops 2000. Though if it was the cover version it sounds identical to Glitters.
It has been well documented that the NFL asked teams to stop playing it after 2006 but did not enforce a ban on the song and allowed the version played by the Tube Tops 2000 to be played at Super Bowls as the songs heard over the PA during Super Bowls are played by the stadiums MC and not by the NFL.
I don't care what the NFL spokesperson you are referring to said, i have watched the Super Bowls and have heard it. The NFL are just back tracking and pandering to obvious British Press questions regarding the song as no one in America least of the NFL could care less about Glitter! You seem to be of the opinion if someone comes out and says something then its "Gospel" that they can't possibly be lying? How often do companies, the BBC, ITV, Parliament, Politicians, Governing Bodies etc come out and say something that turns out not to be true? Didn't the News Of The World say they didn't know about "Phone Hacking"? Rebekah Brooks came out and said she didn't know it was happening, i suppose she was telling the truth? Rupert and James Murdoch didn't know it was happening either.
Liverpool Football Club, Kenny Dalglish and Luis Suarez all say that he is Not Guilty of Racism or Racially Abusing Patrice Evra. I suppose the 3 of them are telling the truth even though he was found guilty and the club never appealed. But they said in public he was innocent, therefore he must be!
John Terry has come out and said he didn't racially abuse Anton Ferdinand and Anton Ferdinand is on record as saying he did. So they both must be telling the truth then!
The NFL were probably caught cold by British Tabloid's asking them the question and because of there "asking" the teams to stop playing it in 2006 decided to say that it hadn't been played, clearly thinking no American journalist is going to care and no British journalist is going to look back over the Super Bowls. And why if Glitter was convicted of Child Pornography charges and imprisoned in 1997 did they wait till 2006 to stop playing the song?
As an aside the film "The Full Monty" was on on Saturday and the song "Rock And Roll Part 2" was played during the film. So since he lost his royalty cheque from the Super Bowl this year he will make another one from that featuring on TV. Are the press going to ask the TV channels why they broadcasted the Full Monty with the Glitter song in it? Is this film and other films and programmes featuring his song going to be banned?

He was actually sent down in November 1999. He was arrested in 1997 but still gigging in 1998.
They edited him out of Top of the Pops (the first time, anyway) so I wouldn't be surprised if his music continues to disappear.

I imagine they would have done, and would continue to do so. Especially on things like Top Of The Pops 2 and shows were he would have made an appearance. I'm not so sure if they would edit his songs from films. Perhaps they will, or on Satellite channels that show old episodes of The Bill or Eastenders and there was background music of his in it (i have no idea if any of his songs ever were background music in any show) but i imagine it would be a painstaking operation to remove these.

Great bit of information there - though i'm very surprised he was still gigging in 1998. Getting older, struggling to remember all those years ago lol...but i seem to recall there was pretty much widespread hatred of him as soon as the story was out there. Was this not the case, did his fans initially back him and hope he would be proved innocent?

No. They aren't.
If you look at the BBC4 listings for 28 Jan this year, you'll see the BBC advertising Top Of The Tops with Slade, Leo Sayer, Gary Glitter, Silver Connection, Donna Summer and Thin Lizzy. The same programme was also shown 2 days before on 26 Jan.
The BBC put out a statement regarding those broadcasts saying that it would not cut Gary Glitter from repeat showings of Top of the Pops. "It would be inappropriate for us to rewrite history so we will show these programmes in their entirety."

RE-JamesW, i saw TOTP2 over christmas, a run down of top 100 greatest xmas tunes i think it was and Glitter was only shown briefly probably cut off before the time frame of which royalties have to be paid, Glitter probably doesn't care im sure he has enough wealth and friends in high places to ensure he will live comfortably for the rest of his days without any need for further royalty payments.
