Though you lay the sarcasm on rather thick in your opening post, DAVID,
you are nonetheless correct ! We will, I fear, be dragged into another
war against "evil" or "crazy" Middle Easteners when, in reality, the
reasons are much more murky. Is it the USA pulling the strings ? Is it
the Jews ? Is it a secret cabal of powerful men ? Who knows. Who cares.
British boys will die.
I hope it does not come to this but things are looking bad. They will get
worse I daresay.
Iran is NOT Iraq. They are NOT Arabs (but Persians) and a people with a
culture and history longer than the UK. They have a whopping great army
and lots of nasty firepower.
To give Iran a hard time over atomic power (even a bomb) is more than
hypocritical when Israel has had a weapon for several years. The Iranian
rulers may hate the jews but they are not so stupid as to invite the
obvious retaliation that would hit their major cities like Tehran if they
whacked Israel.
Its time for real diplomacy and sensible settlements of the dispute. This
is difficult but not impossible.

To be fair the UK has not threatened to wipe another country off the face of the earth with its nuclear weapons, if a country had threatened us in that way I would expect MI6 to be blowing up their scientists.

I presume you speak Farsi then? If not you are just taking someone elses word for it just the same, the intent is pretty clear. Suppose its bullshit that they finance and control Hamas and Hezbollah too, or that they execute children and gays, its a horrible and bellicose regime by any standards and makes no bones about the fact it wants to dominate its neighbours and attack Israel (it already is via terrorists) I certainly will not be sleeping easier if they get nukes. Sad as the Iranian people are by all accounts lovely.

The reason that I put the links in the opening post was the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq seems to be deteriorating quite a bit now the troops have either left or in reduced numbers and in Libya there is all sorts of stuff coming out of the woodwork.

If I was a despot in the Middle East, the lessons of the last 10 years are clear:

1. Get a nuclear bomb asap if you want to remain in power and carry out any foreign policy ambitions.
2. Put your head above the parapet, particularly if you have oil, is asking for trouble.
3. Learn from the example of North Korea.

There has to be a better way.
