I disagree. Britain was forced out by the Germans and the French. They knew that Britain HAD to defend it's interests. They (Mercozy) want a US of E. They know Britain will resist that and so they need us out of the picture. Let us leave them to their little dream of an empire for now. The German people will soon get tired of paying all the bills and kick Mercow out on her fanny and Europe will collapse. !flush!

There are two parts to a trap. Setting one and I don't disagree with you that Sarkozy and Merkel are hardly upset at the UK's isolation, and in addition, falling into it, which Cameron did.
"They knew that Britain HAD to defend it's interests."
Please tell me a single safeguard on British interests that Cameron has achieved at last week's summit? I do not know of one.

The Germans still being an industrial nation which the UK isnt know they will eventually lose ground to China, therefore they want a slice of the money that flows through the City of London and want it to flow through Berlin, Dodgy Dave was right to block this.
At the last count the population of the City of London was just short of 8000 people, im not talking about Greater London, do you know anywhere else on earth with that small population that can rake in Billions each year.
That is the prize they all want especially Germany , Dodgy Dave done the right thing and i hope he sticks to his guns !adolf!

Cameron offered to sign up if the banks were protected. They told him to get stuffed! The UK isn't wanted in the club unless it gives away the banks to patch up the overspending EU governments. Cameron had no alternative.
If they introduce this tax we will have to leave.
I'm quite sure it will all come crashing down soon enough. They can't raise any money. Maybe Croatia can lend them a few Kuna !grin! Could be the end of the coalition too???

I realise that this is the commonly held view trumpeted by Tories and others everywhere. It is only a small part of the story and in total, completely misleading.
Yes, Britain could veto a Tobin tax, because the UK has a veto on taxation. However that is only one small part of the issue with regard to bank regulation. The problem for Britain is that it may in future arrive to the negotiating table in Brussels and be handed a done deal re. bank regulation from the remaining 26 EU member states which cannot be blocked as unanimity is no longer required except in the case of taxation.
Secondly it is important to remember that banking is a global market. Germany's Deutsche Bank is the largest single banking employer in the City of London. French, Spanish and Italian banks also have a significant presence here. Will they stay in the same numbers if their governments make it politically and/or fiscally disadvantageous to do so?
Pay back time to Cameron could be extremely painful for the City.

Please tell me a single benefit to British interests of belonging to this corrupt, anti-democratic Franco-German stitch-up organisation?
