Mindless rioting in Zurich and Monte Carlo
Re: Mindless rioting in Zurich and Monte Carlo
Regardless of which country rioting takes place, who do you think is doing it?

Re: Mindless rioting in Zurich and Monte Carlo
The plain truth is these riots have very little to do with politics. Most
of the rioters do not read a newspaper, or can barely read, let alone
write a coherent sentence....or know the meaning of coherent.....or
sentence, come to that....
Brought up with a selfish obsession with material things, especially
toys, consumer gadgets and the hard cash that buys them, fed this
diet of consumerism by zillions of adverts across all media, they use a
long summer night to grab what they can for themselves, even stealing
off the injured.
Luckily these riots are a warm weather flash in the pan. No one riots in
Britain in the autmn and winter and the colder weather will soon dampen
this testosterone-fuelled nonsense.

Oh, I'm afraid you're wrong. There's just been an expert on public disorder on Sky news, and he's a Dr. and a lecturer too. (you know, the useless in the private sector type) So he's bound to know more than the rest of us.
He came out with all the buzz words, disenfranchised, social conditioning, pent up frustrations, he almost came out with the classic "These people are victims too", although he didn't use those words.
So you see really, it's everyone else's fault, the police for harassing gun carrying black men, the shops for stocking nice things that they can't afford.
Still parliament has been recalled on Thursday, and they're going to have a debate, so that should put the end to all of this. I'm sure Teresa May will be reaching out and engaging with 'community leaders' and we'll never see this type of thing again.

We have need of you again, great king.

Hold on a minute. Do you think the police only harass gun carrying black men? On what planet do you live? If only life were that simple!

"Still parliament has been recalled on Thursday, and they're going to have a debate, so that should put the end to all of this."
Yeah, this is pathetic by the Tories. What we need is government to govern decisively. Unless they are using this day to pass new laws then it is a complete waste of time. "This is terrible". "Yes I agree" "Completely inexusable". "Yes, indeed". zzzzzzzzzz.
"I'm sure Teresa May will be reaching out and engaging with 'community leaders' and we'll never see this type of thing again."
She was on Today this morning. Completely and utterly useless.

"If the people of the UK were that pissed off at Tory policies then I think we'd find just as much, if not more angst in Scotland, Wales and most of the north."
First it is early days so far. So it would be a brave person who predicted how this is going to pan out over the summer. There was trouble in Liverpool last night and in Leeds too from what I heard.
The Tories's stronghold is obviously the south. In the North it is mainly Labour and Labour or Labour/Lib Dem councils. So in a sense it is viewed in the North that it is those pillocks in Westminster who are responsible whilst Labour councils try to do their best with the crap hand they have been dealt with.
Secondly, with regard to Scotland and Wales, you need to keep in mind that the Tories hardly exist in Scotland and they have little part to play in Wales. The Tories are generally regarded with Cleggie as a bunch of distant, London based tossers who have no understanding whatsoever of what goes on outside the south. THe devolved governments in Scotland and Wales are seen to be watering down the idiocy and incompetence of the Tories and Lib Dems in Westminster. So tuition fees are completely different in Scotland and Wales. The unbelievable nonsense that the Tories and Lib Dems have come up with in their NHS bill mean nothing in Wales and Scotland etc etc.
This doesnt mean that there will not be any trouble in Wales and Scotland but it is well to keep the above points in mind.
Cheers

Re: Sam
The latest riots are copycat-style acts.
My 12 year old nephew has bbms (Blackberry Messenger) from similarly aged kids in Birmingham, and Nottingham asking why Sheffield/Manchester hasn't rioted yet, calling Sheffielders/Mancs 'weak'. It's mindless youths and idiots jumping on a bandwagon and trying to save face, or outdo each other.
Sadly there are rumours Sheffield will riot tonight (I'm out bowling for my nieces birthday so I'm hoping nothing will spoil it). These rumours aren't from politically motivated youths frightened about their future. They're from kids and teenagers on Facebook who see it as exciting and a chance to get their post code on BBC News 24. If they can get a few pairs of trainers and an iPod Touch while they're at it all the better.
I left school in 1992, in a city that had had it's heart completely ripped out by Tory policies. I know what it's like to be young, leaving school and having no prospects, as did all my friends and even the generation above me. We didn't riot.

If what you say is true i.e. it is just kids looking for excitement and carrying out copycat attacks and has nothing to do with politics:
Why do riots happen much more frequently under Tory governments than Labour governments over the last 30 years?
Why do riots happen much more in the UK than the majority of western European countries?
Why do the kids in the UK feel so littile sense of community that they trash their own community and threaten the lives of people in that area?
Cheers

Re: Sam
You want me to answer questions no one else can answer?
Like I said, my generation left school after 12 years of Tory cuts, not 12 months. Previous riots during Tory terms of governing were obviously about Tory policies or problems with society (race riots/ minors & steel riots / poll tax riots). They were about prejudice, jobs and being bled dry. The rioters of yesteryear were youths and the middle-aged alike. They had worn out clothing and old shoes. Today's rioters are predominantly under 25, have ?100 Nike trainers, ?90 G-Star jeans and ?300 Blackberry phones. Half of the rioters are on their six week summer holidays from school.
Previous riots, with real political aims, were sons and fathers together, fighting for a better future. They were angry, held placards and threw petrol bombs at police who they thought of as part of the establishment. They didn't hide their faces behind masks, hoods and scarves because they didn't see themselves as criminals. They were standing up for a cause. I haven't seen any of that over the past few days. I just see opportunists, looters and thugs.
I bet 90% of them wouldn't know the difference between a Tory or Labour policy. All they know is that a bit of looting and goading the coppers with their mates sounds like a good night out.
