No one forced him to sign up and if he, you or anyone else thinks this gives him the freedom to swear and be rude to anyone he feels like, without any sort of comeback, then they ought to think again.

So if a heart surgeon or fireman came on here calling everyone a cunt, no one should give them any grief back? What if Rodders called a fireman a twatt? Do we have a kind of totting up hour to see which one outranks the other based on their service to the country?

Grow up, Dickie. Rodders dishes it out and so he can take it back in equal measure.

I know he wasn't forced to sign up, but I think that stands him in good stead. He did it of his own accord.
I suppose if it ever came to conscription again you would opt out ?
I'm of a different generation Sammy boy.I respect people who join the forces.
I have little respect for people who go to university and do "diversity"courses and get non jobs on the council.
A soldier gets a leg blown off and gets peanuts.Somebody gets "stressed" in a council job can claim hundreds of thousands of pounds.
What's your view on that?

Dick, I don't know where you're going with this. If someone calls me a cunt I feel I can call them a cunt back. It doesn't matter what they've done. Harold Shipman probably saved more lives than Rodders ever has but I don't see Shipman as a better man.

If I help a man to walk again after a car accident, so he can play football in the park with his sons, does that mean I can go out and kick someone else in the bollocks for a laugh and tell him he can't kick me back because he only sells mobile phones and hasn't done enough good deeds in life? That's fucking lunacy. You can bend over and let Rodders fuck you up the jacksie if you want but you're not talking me into letting him. Let him ram his cock down your missuses throat too while you're at it. I mean, he served his country and it would be disrespectful to stop him!

Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

Rudeness and abuse is rudeness and abuse no matter who does it.

As a lover of opera then there is only one choice, Florence!

During my years as a lighting director, I visited Florence many times and lit a number of contemporary operas including one really weird one for composer Peter Maxwell Davies.

I remember the theatre was so old, that when going upstairs to the "Fly floor", about 100ft up, that's the bit where all the scenery is pulled up and down, the wooden steps had been completely worn away by the thousands of footsteps going up and down. I think the theatre was 14th Century.

Anyway, all this experience got me a mention in AVN, for the lighting in the first porn film I ever lit for Private, called Anal Manor!

Anyway Florence is a truly beautiful city especially in the Spring. Of course it is in a beautiful part of Italy, Tuscany.

Thanks Phil.

Lisbon is one of the places I have visited about 3 years ago for a week. I agree with everything you say. It's a great city with lots to do. I enjoyed the fantastic architecture, the Old Town, the boat rides on the river etc. And you can get along the coast to beach resorts.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ever thought about writing an autobiography? From lighting a Peter Maxwell Davies opera in a 14th centrury Florence theatre to lighting "Anal Manor" seems an interesting journey!

I went to Florence as a kid and remember it as a very beautiful location with fantastic museums and art galleries with loads of narrow streets with kids whizzing around on mopeds. Summer is definitely to be avoided because as I recall you couldn't move for people like me, tourists.

Venice, which I have been to a couple of times including once in Carnival time, is my all-time favourite place. Spent the entire holiday with a smile on my face. Unbelievably beautiful place.

Cheers

Cheers, people often ask why I gave up the theatre lighting. It was the pressure and stress. Imagine opening night, a thousand people in the audience watching. Hundreds of lighting circuits and cues all of which could blow at any time, it was a fucking nightmare in the end. Nothing serious ever went wrong in 200 shows, but I couldn't handle waiting for something to happen. This was in the days when everything was done manually. Going into the fledgling world of video and porn was far more relaxing.

If you are intending a break late Spring then may I suggest Budapest ?
Tons of history, splendid museums, not least the "House of Terror", once
home to both the fascist and communist secret police forces, and a
riverting experience. Normally Hungary is about 10 degrees hotter than
Prague and in 2009 we were all in summer clothes by first week April
(and the poor old trees were not even in bloom). Take a boat down the
Danube into Romania, stroll the battlements of Buda Castle, see the
crown inside Parliament along with sites of the 1956 Revolution, sip a
coffee with Jim Slip who is here half the time (Ok, ok, maybe I am getting
carried away), but its a lovely city, lots of history - and very pretty girls !!

Actually I am told that Turkey is a good location, not expensive and not in the Eurozone, yet.
My mate goes there every year and is well pleased.
Personally I prefer Cyprus but that is now not as cheap as it was a few years ago and in the Euro.
