Actually, people are quite proud if they can prove that they are descendant from the original convicts. It's like an exclusive club. By the way, there are some truly beautiful public buildings built by convicts 200 years ago which are still standing.

We have a similar problem. Most 'new Australians' are happy to be here and actually contribute more than they need to (Chinese, Indian and south-east Asians put us to shame as far as work and study goes), but some others seem hell bent on extracting as many welfare benefits as possible while claiming our country is crap. They must hate their relatives because they can't wait to bring them out here as well.

The term 'pom' has been the subject of much speculation. Prisoner of Mother England would result in P.O.M.E. and hence the term 'pommy'. There are other theories about the term but that one sounds plausible to me.

I have travelled extensively and with my hand on my heart I am always glad to see the white cliffs of Dover or Newhaven from the ferry and Gatwick or Heathrow from the air.

Max! Where do you get your info from? I have quite a large slection of fruiends who happen to be black and not one of them has ever trashed this country as much as Ive heard the white "indigenous" man has.

When white people rail on about their country I cant help but feel they have a license to do so but I love this country. Maybe not the weather, the high taxes and cost of living but Britain is a beautiful place for its diversity of people and cultures.

Compared to other places on the planet, us brits have never had it so good. With the onset of global warning the UK may just be a good place as any other before long.

Max, may I suggest you hang out a bit with people who are not of your own kind as you may learn a lot by doing so rather than getting this info from the local and national news
