I did teach an Aussie to drink the yard of ale. We had one of those yard glasses in our workshop bar and it was something that none of the Aussies had seen before. Mind you, once they had learnt the knack there was no stopping the drunken sods. One good drinking buddy was a conscript and we met in Terandak in Malaya and he used to say "Days to do are getting few" to his demob. I used to reply, yeh well but I've been in the Far East longer then you've been in the Army. That use'd to shut him up, for a while. Nice bloke though.

Oz must be the only place in the world where the Prime Minister can hold a world record for drinking and go on to win 4 elections. He promised to give up the grog if elected and as far as I know, he actually did stay sober the whole time. Perhaps he should have kept it up, because now in his later years, he's a sour, bitter old bastard.

Apparently Hawk is the former record holder. Google say the present record time is 5 seconds according to Guinness, but Google doesn't say who. Now that is fucking fast. I've done it in 17 seconds in my youth. I took my time cos I didn't want to spill any of the precious stuff. It was draught Tiger after all.

Some fit looking birds can get out of their minds as well you know.
Seems to me that the media, Daily Mail, Sun and them types of rags are happy to hype this up as it equates to sales to the bastards.
Also, lets not forget that places like Aya Nappa in Cyprus and the like promote this type of activity as it is sales to them. They couldn't care less what happens as long as they sell their wares.
This is the main reason that I go to the other end of the island to the west of Pafos when I go to Cyprus. It means that I aint amongst the lager louts.
