That was in the manifestos of both the Lib Dems and Tories so it can't be held to be a response to the request for feedback post-election on which laws should be repealed.

We will see which laws get repealed as a result of this initiative, shall we, before we start talking about a working democracy has arrived?

If you had read my original post properly you would be aware that laws such as the Academy Bill have been passed by the Lib Dem Con government with a minimum of opportunity to debate them and have resulted in a huge centralisation of education in which parents have limited chance to give their views.

Not a good start for a "working democracy" I would have thought.

I know it has. And as I said, I'm not putting much faith in a mass repeal, other than ID cards and a possible future reduction in the stop and search of tourists and photographers taking pics.

On the 8th of July Home Secretary Theresa May announced an immediate end to police use of Section 44 of the Terrorism Act which allowed officers to stop and search a person without reasonable suspicion. This was used to stop and search photographers amongst others.

This might have had something to do with the previous week's European Court of Human Rights rejection of a Home Office appeal against a ruling that police use of Section 44 stop-and-search powers is unlawful.

However, there is still Section 43 which allows police to stop and search people they suspect might be a terrorist.

At the time the Metropolitan Police said: 'Public safety remains our top priority and we will continue to use all other powers available to us to keep London a hostile environment for terrorists.

'Police officers continue to have the power to stop and search anyone they reasonably suspect to be a terrorist under Section 43 of the Terrorism Act.

Best not to hold our breath on this one!

Just to cheer a few people up, New Labour's war on the motorist is slowly being dismantled firstly by getting rid of speed cameras and today I heard that the racketeering scam of clamping of cars on private land is to be made illegal!
