Really??? It's the local (Tory) council who put up all the "No Ball Games" signs in my area, except where I live... that's down to the Resident's Association. Trying to see what either of those have to do with the current government, but then I imagine you're not too bright and blame every slight and injustice, however minor, on "the government"

Regarding the selling of school playing fields to developers... if you want properly funded schools that don't need to sell off land to help pay for staff wages and equipment you're going to have to accept higher taxes. So which is it to be? You moaning about higher taxes, or you moaning about schools selling off their land?

Yes, I'll give up as I'm clearly not bright enough to cross swords with you but as I don't pay taxes nor drive a car I don't really care how high they go :/

NOT TRUE

The INTERNET was originally ''arpanet''.

The Internet existed long before the "web" part.

T B Lee came up with the idea of the "world wide web" to sit on TOP of the internet - browsers, hyperlinks, HTML etc.

It says as much here:

In fact the best way to explain it is:

The internet could (and did) exist without the Web.

But the Web could not exist without the Internet.

Many people use the words "internet" and "web" interchangably.

But when you are using a browser and looking at web sites you are using the WEB (on top of the internet).

But it is still possible to use the "internet" without using the "web".

If I want to get a file from another computer I can go to the command line and issue "ftp" commands to get the file.

This is using the internet but not the web (ftp existed long before the web)

What's really irritating is that bastardised term 'interweb'.

...as did usenet (aka news groups), and email.

I wonder if it's The Grid that will finally send society down the drain?

So you can use the grid to remote use a huge telescope that doesnt belong to you?How brilliant is that...I have always wondered what the lady at no 26 gets up to!wink! When im not searching out for new planets of course.... Im not so sure about the complete strangers accessing my computer bit tho...and you have to think, alot of these science types wouldnt even remember what a woman looks like, being buried deep in some mountain (and yes,i know there ARE lady scientists but, come on! )... The Grid ,its potential and uses are absolutely fascinating-and im sure will herald the end of mankind as we know it/as soon as some crazed despote gets control of it...
