Yes, I agree that the Afghanistan excursion was quixotic and
ill-informed.
There is no 'global democracy' and I never suggested there was.
What I meant was that the US' rather woolly and sometimes naive
idealism is vitally important to the future of the planet. However
inconsistent, sometimes self-defeatingly and illogically violent,
and generally cack-handed they are, they are still our only
effective guarantor of freedom.
