The material that they make themselves has not been classified by the bbfc. Indeed where their own programmes have been submitted for classification they have often been cut. (This does not mean that they are hard core.) I assume that the cut-down versions of American films that they show will have been classified though.

Yes you're probably right re: own produced programmes, which is why the ITC has a backdoor with "taste & deceny" clause in their programming code, in which they no doubt communicate to the adult chans that this means stick to softcore only, although I believe `taste and decency` to be a very subjective term and could easily be challenged in the High Court should the ITC reprimand a broadcaster, and IMHO has a good chance of winning but none of these lot will step up.

It appears to me that the newest series are being shot both hard and soft, and that the ITC are allowing (not that they screen programmes before broadcast) small cuts of hardcore to get through. The major difference between now and say five years ago is that instead of shooting two entirely different films, one soft and one hard, the soft is now an edited version of the hardcore one. What an improvement, I think.
