So do you think homosexuality is a mental disease?
No, it's a genetic disorder. How could it be anything else? It's certainly not something you could choose. 'Genetic disorder' probably isn't helpful terminology but since the goal of a gene is replication, and since being homosexual reduces this then I can't think of a more positive term to describe it. What is clear is that homosexual behaviour has evolved in most species of mammals and so it's probable that it's of some benefit to the gene pool at a social level. There are varying ideas on how homosexuality can be something natural selection chooses but nothing stands out as definite.
No this is sadism. If that is a mental disorder then what is your 'normal'?
Of course sadism is a mental disorder. It's as clear as day. That 'disorder' could be temporary or permanent but there's no getting away from it. You ask what I mean by normal, and I say that I can't tell you. That's why a encased the word in quotation marks in my post. What I can say is that no species that bases it's survival on social bonds and cooperation, as humans do, would have survived 4 million years if sadism was 'normal'.
To deny such acts as a sickness of the mind, or a disorder, then you'd have to conclude that we are all potential sadists and torturers. That is clearly not the case as soldiers coming back from long bouts of combat prove. Even people who've killed in the sanitised, depersonalised warzones of the last 30 years are still coming back traumatised at what they have done/seen. Killing for fun is a massive jump, consciously, from that, and to torture a further jump yet.
..time to blame more and understand less I feel.
Now that's just silly. Imagine saying that when your sugar plantation went bust in 1825 because all your black slaves had been set free. Your attitude would incline you to 'blame' the government, or slaves for enforcing/wanting their freedom ? no? My attitude of 'understanding' doesn't. And this is just one example I picked out of thin air; surely there are many more scenarios where understanding has improved life much more than blame ever has.
Understanding doesn't mean these kids should be set free, naturally. It just means that they're sick and should be treated as such. 'Bullets in the head' remarks are more worrisome than the killers these remarks are aimed at, given that the jonnyhungwells of our world are roaming free and supposed to be sane.
