Not sure if that is what prompted you, but his wife (ex wife) died and her obituary is in the Daily Telegraph today (Wednesday 4th February).

She fought long and hard to get him released, and even the Who did concerts to get him released (mugs).

18 months later he was caught red handed doing a robbery.

She then divorced him.

Anyone remember the teenage tearaway of this era i.e. early '80's - who escaped police custody on a few occasions?
I think he was of Greek descent, and nicknamed 'Dino' by the 'papers?
Can't recall what he was convicted of, but he was a minor celebrity round about the time of the David Martin / Stephen Waldorf escapades.

Looks like he always had a cavalier attitude to the law. The obit says that he lost his licence and could no longer work as a lorry driver .. and supplemented his dole with casual work as a taxi driver .. presumably while he was still banned from driving !

Waldorf was in the company of David Martins girlfriend when he was shot after apparently being mistaken for the shooter. Martin had shot at a policeman after breaking into a film lab . What he might have been after has never really been explained. There certainly wouldn't have been much cash on the premises. One suggestion at the time was that he intended to steal and ransom some footage going through the lab at the time. One of the things that they were producing was John Lindsay's 8mm loops. Perhaps thats what put porn in the mind of the police who looking for a connection used his job as an Assistant Editor to put 1 and 1 together to make 5.

Looked it up on beeb and it was 14/01/1983 when Stephen Waldorf
was shot. He got ?150,00 compensation
