Christmas is only enjoyable for young children - and the parents of young children. For the rest of us it's not what it once was. It'll just seem like a quiet Thursday to me.

I still find the cult of Zwarte Piet, in theNetherlands, quite amusing

I don't drink, don't have children and don't believe in gods, but my wife and I absolutely love Christmas.

We got all our Christmas cards written yesterday and simply cannot wait until it's time to get the tree and decorations up. We will probably watch the movie National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation [1989] this coming weekend.

By the second week of December, I'll get the Christmas decorations and music up on my website. That's when it really starts for me, and when I begin taking more than a passing interest in mince pies.

This Christmas holiday will be our best - and longest - as my wife retires on 23rd December.

I've had some crap xmas's recently, had some really close family deaths and illnesses that have taken their toll on our family.

Now there are only 3 of us who will be celebrating in our house, but I'm now at the stage where I am going to enjoy every single christmas, I am really looking forward to it.

I've now taken up the roll of cooking the xmas dinner and last year did a pretty fantastic job, now its a highlight for me, oh the wonderful smell of the turkey cooking!!! I can practically taste it now.

Xmas is never the same as when you are young, I had some truly wonderful xmas's when I was growing up, now as an adult I see it through different eyes but its important I feel to make it as memorable as possible........ you never know which xmas is going to be your last, having some truly awful xmas's (like the year my mum died) really made me realise that I want to make that time of year a happy time and from that year on I have done and this wont be an exception.

:)
