peter kay's britain has pop facter etc
Re: peter kay's britain has pop facter etc
Yes, bit of a yawn this programme for me, I'm afraid! Not savage enough to be a real satire, it dragged on for most of Channel 4's evening, yet could have been done better and funnier in a ten minute sketch on, say, The Kevin Bishop Show. Another Peter Kay self-indulgence, with lots of production values but just not clever enough, and with a dreadfully lame ending.

just me then?
Re: peter kay's britain has pop facter etc
I thought it was good, funny in parts... But like people have said, it was a bit too subtle and I found myself thinking that certain jokes and jives about the whole talent show genre could have been taked further...
Nothing will ever live up to Pheonix Nights, even Max and Paddy was good, but was no where near as good as Pheonix Nights.

i agree about Pheonix Nights top show
Re: peter kay's britain has pop facter etc
Phoenix Nights - superb
Max and Paddy - very good
Stand up live - seen him in Hammersmith - excellent
Pop Factor - crap
Shame but true.

"The Winner's Song" enters chart at #2. X Factor Leon Jackson at #3
So that's two examples of media-instructed people buying a record they won't actually listen to then?
Kay's idea of satire is a nice little earner it seems.

Have to agree.
Peter Kay was excellent in his early days, but sadly now he's run out of steam and is getting fat & lazy (so to speak) and stuck in his comfort zone.
Happens to a lot of comics (Lenny Henry being another prime example that springs immediately to mind). Even the great Billy Connolly has gone of the boil in recent years.
Kay isn't very nice to his paying public either, by all accounts - though I can't verify that first hand. And his Web site (last time I looked) was basically just a shop pedalling "garlic bread" T-shirts and the like.

Agree on most of this. That Peter Kay Thing was great.
The pilot episode based at the service station was fantastic -
as is the Keith Lard creation
Phoenix Nights was a funny natural progression
All he appears to have done in this pop factor thingy is move his
clubs acts(who were spot on) forward from the club stage to a
tv show setting. As most have already said it's hard to parody X factor
because most of the sob stories, cheesey backing dancers/singers etc
have been already covered by Cowell & company
Finally although I did see his live 'bungalow tour'show and enjoyed it
quite a lot of his material here had already been used in his Blackpool
tower performance. Unfortunately that show had already been out on
video for some time and also been shown on channel 4.
So I was short changed from that aspect I suppose
