I don't think there's a publicity machine behind her whereas there is behind Winehouse and Doherty. To me that makes it more distasteful and makes them less sympathetic because they're exploiting their addictions for commercial gain because it reinforces a view of them as 'artists' and 'outlaws' that they wish to propagate.

Are they exploiting their addictions in the way the media have? I don't know about you, but if I knew someone was making themselves a hundreds of thousands out of my alcohol addiction, then I'd want a piece, since it's my misery making them rich.

If they were truly miserable they would stop. It's a costs v benefits thing isn't it? What are the benefits, what are the costs. Until the latter outweigh the former they'll carry-on therefore there's a significant degree of calculation and choice at work. That's another reason why there's less sympathy for Winehouse and Doherty. Judge them by their actions and not their words.

I've never been addicted to anything, Jonone; and, to take up your advice, if I judge them on their actions, I see almost at once that their types of addictions are also common throughout all the classes in society, who would have no financial incentive to carry the habit on.

Of course, they are in a better position to get help, and some might not actually want to quite whatever's running/ruining their lives. They might take advantage of the publicity machine, but the machine is created by the media, and insatiably lapped up by the public, which isn't their fault.

What's more contemptible in my eyes is the media mogul, who sees a Winehouse overdose as just another way of earning profits for yet another luxury yacht on the south coast of France. If Miss Winehouse can grab a piece of this money, I say go for it.

I see what you're saying, but if all they're interested in let's not waste time lamenting squandered talent if all they're interested in is money.

(I know you weren't lamenting squandered talent, but that's one of the 'stories').

I have to agree, It's terribly sad to see anyone reduced to this state, But someone who was so stunning and had the World at her feet, It's a tragedy.
For those who aren't aware of her, Look at her website photos.

The way I see it, if people have to take drugs to cope with their jobs then they are better off not doing that job as it means the only way is down regardless of the fact they are trying to make a living, which ends up being a misnomer.

Chasey is spiralling down fast. I wonder if she will ever make it back.

Very sad.

I know I'm going to be lambasted from a few of you here, but when has that stopped me?

Anyway, does anyone think the guy filming is a dick? Ok, he might be losing money on the location & make-up fees, but if a girls got issues like that, by all means tell her to 'piss off,' by all means warn her that she'll not be booked again until she sorts herself out, but to video her behaviour and post it on the web?? This isn't helpful to the girl, and it doesn't help him recoup any money he lost so his only motive to publicise it is through spite.
