New Order were born from the remains of Joy Division after Ian Curtis's death.

Fine Young Cannibals.

The late 1980's also saw the Acid House craze, which then led to Ibiza being reborn. My first of many excursions to the beautiful Balearic Island was in 1988,as a fledging 17yo.

Happy days !happy!

the Jesus & Mary Chain, The Death Cult, The Sisters Of Mercy, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Violent Femmes, Cocteau Twins, The Gun Club, Alien Sex Fiend, Bauhaus, The Cure, Fields Of The Nephilim....I used to go out with a Goth in the 80's as you can tell! Didn't much care for that scene as such but quite liked some of the records and saw some of the above bands live.

I used to like the Mary Chain though big time. Thought they were awesome at the time!! Even got into REM way back in the mid 80s, I think they only had 2 or 3 albums out by then. Thought they were really cool at the time too! Sonic Youth - "Sister" album from around 87ish was another. In fact come to think of it, the 80s were pretty damn good now I look back!

Try 'Take Fountain' or just go out and see them - they have an album out now and still are a great live band...

WEDDING PRESENT WEB SITE RELAUNCHED WITH SPECIAL OFFER

The Wedding Present's web site has been redesigned by our friend Rachel Queen. The revamped design matches the sleeve of the band's new album 'EL REY' and now features new merchandise, including the El Rey Rabbit, Thing I Like Best About Him Is His Girlfriend, George Best 20th Anniversary, and Go Out And Get 'Em, Boy! t-shirts. Some of the new t-shirts are also available in children's sizes. Other items include Wedding Present hats and My Favourite Dress dresses as well as the full complement of box sets, cds and dvds.

Scopitones have decided to celebrate the site's relaunch by offering the recent double Wedding Present CD 'LIVE 1987' for sale by mail-order at the remarkable price of just ?5 plus postage and packing until 1 August 2008. ?LIVE 1987? compiles the first two of the band's popular 'Live Tapes', a series of official bootleg cassettes that were sold by mail order in the 1980s. The re-mastered album features live versions of ten songs from ?George Best? and comes with sleeve notes written by The Wedding Present?s original drummer, Shaun Charman.
