Probably one of the most over-rated and banal "comedies" ever, and made even more cringe worthy by endless repeats. Maybe 4 episodes out of the 71* that were made are worth watching... the rest are just ponderous space-fillers repeating the same old gags over and over again!

Television for the brain dead.

* 64 episodes plus 7 Christmas specials

Its a sad state of affairs when I watched a 1974 repeat of a Dads Army episode last night............put every comedy programme on terrestrial TV to shame

Gavin and Stacey- James Corden and Ruth Jones write it and star in it. Brilliant script and great ensemble cast.

Exactly - it just blows them off the screen (so to speak).

I'm in agreement with most people on here that British comedies just don't happen anymore for one reason or another,but i'd go for 'My Family' as well.'My Name Is Earl' would be my choice from across the pond.

I'm only in my 30's and i'm thankful for UKTV Gold showing classic comedies like Porridge,Steptoe and Son,Dad's Army and the brilliant Only Fools And Horses,In Sickness And In Health and One Foot In The Grave.

Who remembers ITV's offerings of Please Sir,The Fosters,Mind Your Language and On The Buses?

That's when comedy was comedy,and pisstaking was at it's best.I guess the 'establishment' that controls TV these days have no sense of humour !whistle!

If the title of this thread hadn't been about the best comedy on TV "at this moment", I too would have nominated Black Books.

British: Gavin & Stacey. Excellent cast and very well written.

American: Family Guy. I've got all the first 6 series on DVD.
