Intros are essential to hook the listener in. Some above average songs would have benefitted from a decent intro.
Punk songs were rarely longer than 3 minutes, so a fast and furious intro was needed.
Too many to pick from, but I love 'I wanna Be Your Dog' by Iggy and the Stooges is near the top, as is any Mick Jones or Steve Jones intro's.....pure class, all of 'em.

I agree with many of the songs already mentioned above, but here are some more. While I've mentioned a couple from the late 70s/early 80s "new wave", I've mainly gone for some Motown as it rarely gets a mention on these boards

Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army
Elvis Costello - (I Don't Want to go to) Chelsea

Diana Ross & The Supremes - Baby Love
Diana Ross & The Supremes - The Happening
The Four Tops - It's The Same Old Story
Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes of the Broken Hearted
Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Dancin' in the Streets
Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Nowhere to Run
Marvyn Gaye - I Heard it Through the Grapevine
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - The Tracks of My Tears
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - The Tears of a Clown
Stevie Wonder - Uptight (Everything's Alright)
Stevie Wonder - I Was Made to Love Her

I would add some Blues, Rhythm & Blues and Soul numbers but that would take the list to 50 or so

Don't forget Ian Dury & The Blockheads - What A Waste is probably their greatest intro, closely followed by the drum rolls of Reasons to Be Cheerful.
Madness had some classic intro's too - see nearly all their classic 79-82 singles
