I loved it, but never got hooked- I always found it very accessible, even on a random-episode basis- the plot was generally too deep for a lot of back-referencing, IMO.

I might do a retrospective, buy all the boxsets, and get right into it, tho! It was ahead of it's time- makes a mockery of today's pish. I can't fathom why 'Lost' is so acclaimed.

I remember an episode of UFO that involved the Ed Bishop character suffering some delusional problem such that he thought his reality wasn't real. The camera tracked back to reveal the whole set and crew, clearly in a studio, and he spent a while thinking he was making a film

i thought that would make him good for the role, a special ops Fed is bound to have a high opinion of himself- X-files is the only work in which i rate Duchovny; one-trick pony, but seems genuinely quite witty and sharp on the chatshow sofas, IMHO. A lot of his stuff outwith X-files has pretty much second-rate as far as i know. An acquired taste, maybe.

Michael Douglas and Brenda Vaccaro would have done it good perhaps.

Is that a wee deadpan one-liner? Sid James and Hattie Jacques would be awesome too! !wink!

Mikey baby would be too old for the profile..... and i think the producers were looking for relative unknowns, free of type casting or previous big roles that may detract from the illusion, to make the part their own. Duchovny and gorgeous redhead (forgot her name, Gillian Anderson?) didn't make the show, the show made them. Good chemistry between them, though, and a lot of long-winded tricky, fast, technical pseudo-scientific gobshite difficult lines to rattle off. Kevin Spacey or Guy Pearce would have also been good for the male lead....... Spacey was way too big at the time for the role!

All in all, i think it came off really well!!
