Geoff, Ministers do get paid a decent whack, no doubt about it.
And they also enjoy perks and copper-bottomed pension schemes that rest of us can only dream about.
But their pay is chump change in comparison to EPL footballers' pay.
And as far as Gordon Taylor is concerned yes, he's (allegedly) the highest-paid trade union officials in the world BUT he isn't a footballer, and hasn't been for many a long year. So his pay isn't really relevant to what a footballer gets, that's down to his employers (the PFA).

jt's ?150k per week....obscene or what?!
Re: jt's ?150k per week....obscene or what?!
I am a football fan, and of course not happy about what they earn, BUT...
Today Arsenal are due to play Man Utd.
This will be shown on TV all over the world, the total TV audience will run into the tens of millions, maybe even hundreds of millions.
It is the PLAYERS people are paying to watch. Why should they not get a piece of the action?.
Why should the TV companies, sponsors, club owners, replica kit makers and so on make a lot of money when the players do not.
Tom Cruise probably gets 20 million or more per film. Like the footballers, he probably loves doing it, and he could probably not do anything else, but if people continue to go and watch his films he will continue to earn many millions for every film he makes.
If and when people stop watching football then the salaries will drop, until then you wll have to pay "top wack" to get the best players.

Now this is IS obscene. Fotballers salaries are nothing to this.
The head of Merrill Lynch, Stan O'Neal, "retired" (was sacked) this week after the company posted a 2.24 BILLION dollar loss.
His "pay off" was 161 MILLION DOLLARS.
During his time in charge he made about 25,000 people redundant.

In fact the Daily Telegraph estimate that maybe ONE BILLION people will watch the Arsenal v Man U match today

>If his company lost $2.24Billion, perhaps he should have made a LOT more people redundant?
Or maybe it was the fact he made so many redundant that caused the loss.
The lay offs must have hit company morale a lot, which in turn may have had some impact in the companies performance.
