This is pretty meaningless unless compared with the number of immigrants,
surely?

I imagine the figure would have been roughly similar 50 years ago had
the relative level of wealth had been the same. My parents knew no-one
who had a villa abroa; I know dozens.
It would have been nice to know if the majority leaving were retirees
seeking some Sun, or young talent going to more lucrative spots.

I thought that might figure in your reply, naughty naughty.... I didn't
