I thought McCartney was a good live act with Wings in the mid 1970s but after that........?

I go along with that.

He should up his game and compete with another musical uber-talent.

Brian Wilson ain't exactly a pushover!

Don't think Brian could face the ordeal of rehab if he was defeated again.

Yeah, true, but it would be another 5 years rest in bed and another perfect excuse to have an indoor sandpit and a snooker table with tomatoes as reds and celery sticks as cues, and other such psychedelic japery.

Well first they hadn't really written much together for a few years prior to the Beatles slpit.Even stuff credited with both names was normally solo stuff with a duo tag.
Secondly you can only stay at the top for so long, especially in the singles market, you get old times change etc.
The start of the 70s saw many of the celebrated 60s artists move into touring or LPs.The Stones only really had a few great classic singles during the 70s,but filled the charts the previous decades with plenty.Add in the Kinks,Manfred Mann...the list continues.
I really think that even had they have stayed writing together it would't have made so much difference. They still had a rivalry in the early 70s about who could put out the best stuff,it didn't stop when the Beatles finished.
Changing fashions does for most hit writers, just look at Chinn/Chapman,Glitter/Leande etc,all victims of this.
Guilty of not buying Mull of Kintyre, invested the grand sum of three pounds thirty penneth at Rackhams Music Department for the classic Bryan Ferry solo released LP 'In your Mind' ...playing the title track as I write this:)
