Alice,
One of the reasons that I left the UK is that I have two young children. Neither of them although 5 and three have been to school but have been home educated. Now I am going to send them to school here in Italy.
For example:
In my opinion children in England have become the political pawns of politicians because they are a soft target. Everyone according to the ECHR is entitled to a fair trial but our youth prisons and detention centres are filling up with kids who have breached an ASBO. An ASBO is secured not by a fair trial but by allegations made by professional witnesses employed by the authorities. The accuser is unknown.
As soon as a child attends preschool, or school, in England a record is started where teachers, social workers (the soft police) place comments about a child. "Inappropriate sexual behaviour, for example, where little Tommy is playing with has willie or "hyperactivity" where little Johnny is running around and is too energetic. One will be referred to a psychiatrist the other to a doctor for a prescription of Ritalin.
England has become a big open prison with children under duress to be made into passive consumers, constantly under surveillance by Big Brother.
It is certainly no place for a child to grow up in.
Mike Freeman.
