I remember a remark from 1997...if England let Scotland and Wales become fully independent- and gave them Northumbria and Merseyside as 'going away' presents- then the remaining England would be able to levy a single rate of income tax.
At 8%.

NYC has more Irish citizens in it than all-Ireland!
Brooklyn has more than Dublin.
If the Irish citizens in Brum formed their own Irish city, it would be the third or fourth biggest place there.
The Kingstanding area of Brum has more Irish citizens living in it than Tralee.

Will the UK as we know it be in existence in 2100? No.
Will there be some kind of associatio or union of Celtic nations by 2100? Yes.
Scotland has Britain's oil and stores gas.
Wales has western England's water.
Both will be able to charge the English what they want for these commodities- call it 'payment' or 'subsidy'...so these minor parties who call for Scotland and Wales to 'pay their own way' miss the point- they already are.
Greater Scotland

We'd be only too happy to accept Northumberland, but I've always found the people from the north-east to be very proud to be English (if sharing their northern neighbour's dislike of the OTT cock-er-knee types.
Just look at the great English footballers that area (not to mention Liverpool) has produced, then reconsider the offer.
My dear old dad referred to Geordies as Scots with their brains kicked out (the Geordies themselves reverse the saying!).
